Question about 1999 Dodge Intrepid
I have a 1999 Intrepid that does not start. what could be the problem. The relay on the starter or is there another relay or is relay fused. If so can the relay be jumped so I can at start the car. This started when my alternator started to shot high voltage and blow 3 20 amp fuses. checked all relays and fuses and all are working now but still no start. please help thanks.
Have you checked the ASD (Automatic Shut Down) Relay? Check to see if that is getting power. Then check to see if the ASD Relay itself is good. You do not have to use any special tools/knowledge to check this. You can change this Relay out with another Relay that is the same shape and type on a function that is known working. For example: Check to see if your Front Windshield Wipers are working. Change out the ASD Relay with this Front Windshield On/Off Relay. Check the Wipers again. If it does not work, then the ASD Relay is bad. With the Front Wiper Relay in the ASD now check for power to the Fuel Pump Relay.
One additional fact: IF the Crankshaft Position Sensor is bad the Engine will not operate at all, meaning there will be no power sent to anything including the fuel pump relay!

SOURCE: wont start
throttle body air intake mix is cracked i hope i said this right
right now my mind is waken up
this will be connected to the air filter and assembly take the whole assembly out and try and start vehicle
if vehicle runs you have a crack in throttle body air intake housing this will need to be replaced
cloged fuel filters there is usually 3 one in the engine compartment one on chassis and one in the gas tank called the sending unit this has a filter on it
the gas tank filter only needs to be replaced every 100 thousand miles
timing might be off
sparks not connected all the way or improperly wired
computer took a surge and now wont run replacement of computer is needed
vacume leak at master cylinder
capasitor ignition coil bad <<< spell check
alternators these days are mostly being remanufactured the only true brand new alternators are the ones that come from dealer
batterys are reman. too sometimes they have a dead cell in them
at one point in my life i had to go back 4 different times with alternator and battery for the same problem
this is a win loose win kind of senerio
from the sound of the vehicle only runs off a jump the alternator and or battery is bad
i hope this helped you in discovery of vehicle problems

I'm curious, does this vehicle have an alarm/remote starter? If so I expect the installer didn't wire it correctly ... it was an all too frequent issue, with inexperienced installers we had .... I would first suspect any add-on device first (if any) ... In answer to your question ... I know it does have a relay (Starter solenoid is a relay and built onto the starter) As far as it being a relay or the IGN switch ... I'm skeptical.

signal from temperature sender goes to the computer which then tells the relay to close. relay should have power at one leg which when contacts close, comes out the other leg and goes to the fan.

Yes they do but I would rather think you have a bad battery cabe connection to the system, sometimes the battery cable corrudes and you can't see it try replacing the cable ends and the connector ends espically if they are by the battery.
