No power to the relay, but I override the relay in the engine bay fuse box and started to crank. Ingition key was left on the run side and still engine did not start runnig but only cracking. I checked relay if it was burn't but is okay. Could this be a computor problem due to high voltagefrom the alternator 17.4 volts.

Here we go again from the ingition key to start cracking the engine it does not. From the engine bay fuse box there is a relay for the starter, I override it and it started to crack meaning engine started to turn but did not run or to idle after. I checked if the relay is burn't but is not, it is okay. Does the computor control the starter in any way. This started having problems when my alternator started shoting 17.4 volts, it blow 3 20 amp fuses, 1 dash instruments,2 headlights, 3 fuel pump. Could it be possible that the computor is shot after all this. Is there fuse for the computor and where is it located.

  • sparta57 Jan 05, 2009

When key is held to the start side there is no voltage.

  • sparta57 Jan 05, 2009

The reason why I override the relay is to check if the starter would work and or if it need to be replaced. Now I know it works. I live in Montreal and snow sometime causes problem to the starter. From the ingition switch it does not crack at all. When I did this test the ignition key was left on the run position. Also when I turn key to on position I do not hear any huming noise from the gas tank.

Why do you think it is the ignition switch. That is 1 in a million that it is bad. This car has this problem meaing company defect What about high voltage it blew 3 fuses. Can the high voltage also fry my computor, if so how can i check it.

  • sparta57 Jan 06, 2009

One more thing to mention, it has an alarm system the CM-3000 v.2. could this be the main cause. I also just the alarms relays and no start.

  • sparta57 Jan 06, 2009

I jump the alarms relays. this is what i meant. sorry

  • sparta57 Jan 06, 2009

I bypassed the starter kill switch still no start. Like I explained above volt shot at17.4 volt for days maybe weeks. I'm not the drive my wife is. So you what I mean by delay. At thje last moment my wife told thast door lock were on and off, as well as the horn on continiously. This sujested me alarm first thing. but the alarm is no way connected to hte horn. Also like to to know is there an fuel pump switch when car get into an accident. plus how to check if computor is running. put on my scanner no data stored that is what I get. I'm a master mechanic first time I came across this type of situation. I'm good with wires to. There must be somthing else. TOmorrow I will remove alarm totaly and resoder all cut wire and see if this cures the problem. To all those great people that help me in cureing this problem thanks. I will give update tomorrow.

do u have a 12 volt crank signal to the starter solenoid when the key is held in the crank position? this is the 1st thing to check.

having an aftermarket alarm system is a big omission, bypass it and I bet u anything it starts right up!

THE NEXT THING TO DO IS CHECK OR REPLACE THE IGNITION SWITCH, IT MAY BE/ IS DEFECTIVE

if you overide the ignition to the starter then the fuel pump won't run during cranking.

SOURCE: 1999 dodge caravan 3.0 liter. fuel pump relay not

Have you checked the ASD (Automatic Shut Down) Relay? Check to see if that is getting power. Then check to see if the ASD Relay itself is good. You do not have to use any special tools/knowledge to check this. You can change this Relay out with another Relay that is the same shape and type on a function that is known working. For example: Check to see if your Front Windshield Wipers are working. Change out the ASD Relay with this Front Windshield On/Off Relay. Check the Wipers again. If it does not work, then the ASD Relay is bad. With the Front Wiper Relay in the ASD now check for power to the Fuel Pump Relay.
One additional fact: IF the Crankshaft Position Sensor is bad the Engine will not operate at all, meaning there will be no power sent to anything including the fuel pump relay!

SOURCE: wont start

throttle body air intake mix is cracked i hope i said this right
right now my mind is waken up

this will be connected to the air filter and assembly take the whole assembly out and try and start vehicle
if vehicle runs you have a crack in throttle body air intake housing this will need to be replaced

cloged fuel filters there is usually 3 one in the engine compartment one on chassis and one in the gas tank called the sending unit this has a filter on it
the gas tank filter only needs to be replaced every 100 thousand miles

timing might be off
sparks not connected all the way or improperly wired
computer took a surge and now wont run replacement of computer is needed
vacume leak at master cylinder
capasitor ignition coil bad <<< spell check
alternators these days are mostly being remanufactured the only true brand new alternators are the ones that come from dealer
batterys are reman. too sometimes they have a dead cell in them
at one point in my life i had to go back 4 different times with alternator and battery for the same problem
this is a win loose win kind of senerio

from the sound of the vehicle only runs off a jump the alternator and or battery is bad

i hope this helped you in discovery of vehicle problems

SOURCE: 20 amp ignition fuse keeps blowing

I'm curious, does this vehicle have an alarm/remote starter? If so I expect the installer didn't wire it correctly ... it was an all too frequent issue, with inexperienced installers we had .... I would first suspect any add-on device first (if any) ... In answer to your question ... I know it does have a relay (Starter solenoid is a relay and built onto the starter) As far as it being a relay or the IGN switch ... I'm skeptical.

SOURCE: electric radiator fan does not come on.

signal from temperature sender goes to the computer which then tells the relay to close. relay should have power at one leg which when contacts close, comes out the other leg and goes to the fan.

SOURCE: I have a 2003 Dodge Caravan with a 3.3L it wont

Yes they do but I would rather think you have a bad battery cabe connection to the system, sometimes the battery cable corrudes and you can't see it try replacing the cable ends and the connector ends espically if they are by the battery.

REMOVED ALARM -STARTER WON'T ENGAGE-NO POWER TO ENGINE

When you removed the alarm unit you cut the line to the Starter kill switch that was installed. Remove the starter kill switch which is most likely located under the dash spliced into the ignition wiring harness.

When i turn over my key in my 99 dodge intrepid to start it ... it makes a click sound and doesnt start ... my stepdad said it might be my timing chain but i want to make sure.

could be a few things;
- could be battery terminals are loose.
- bad starter, or bad connection to your starter (like a wire loose)
- could be a starter relay (located in distribution box)
- could be that the timing belt is broken, or slipped off of the cam gear..
hope this helps....
could you also rate this advise, thanks....

Vehicle Stalls

you should have engine light on and engine codes
if its the cam or crank sensors, shouldn't be the starter i would start with the ingition switch.
