Question about 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Engine dies, won't start

After driving the vehicle for a while(a 30 mile trip or for about a half an hour), then my jeep will die. Sometimes it will restart itself before I can cruise to a stop and sometimes I come to a stop and it will start right back up when I turn the key back on. There are times when it won't restart for up to a half an hour though. I have replaced the fuel filter and checked out the fuel pump and the problem does not lie there. I was wondering if anyone knows where I should look next or if they know how to solve this problem. Thanks and please help!!

It is ignition related, check the ecm for trouble codes, then I would do a complete tune-up and if that doen't fix it then check the crank sensor which is what it sounds like anyway but it's cheaper to do a tune-up first just incase

I have a 2001 jeep grand cherokee drive it a while turn the engine off wont start back up

Your starter solenoid armature is sticking. It is mounted atop the starter and the heat from the exhaust manifold sometimes causes this problem on older systems. You can try a temporary fix by placing some type of heat shield over the solenoid using something that is fire proof but replacing the solenoid will eventually be necessary.

1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 8Cyl4.7L When when driving over 50 miles per hour will lose all power whats wrong?

When you say it loses power, do you mean electrical power or engine power ?
You would need to look at the fuse boxes for a loss of electrical power, and use a scanner or code reader to check the computer for trouble codes for a loss of engine power.

Ran a 300 mile trip up to Pennsylvania mountains this weekend. 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee ran fine. I did notice though that while driving with ac on I got a blast of hot air. Temp gauge was at 200 to 210 no...

Doesn't sound as though you have overheating issues.
With a 196 thermostat, a vehicle is designed to run at 200 to 210,and you were putting it under a load on your trip.
I don't know why you would think about changing anything, unless you were doing some trouble shooting, and a test you were performing, indicated a failed component.
I would change the thermostat, as preventative maintainance every five years, and watch for the fans to be working after a trip of five miles or so.
Your A/C may have been switched off, by the various computer systems, to prevent overheating, or it may be starting to have it's own issues.

Jeep Grand Cherokee Power Loss

a bad cam sensor will cause vehicle to shut off while driving, and cause a hard time starting. but this usually sets a trouble code p0340. scan vehicle to see if any codes come up. after it is fixed, erase codes with a obd2 scanner. if you do not have one, you can go to any auto parts store and they will erase codes for free.
