Question about 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Engine dies, won't start

After driving the vehicle for a while(a 30 mile trip or for about a half an hour), then my jeep will die. Sometimes it will restart itself before I can cruise to a stop and sometimes I come to a stop and it will start right back up when I turn the key back on. There are times when it won't restart for up to a half an hour though. I have replaced the fuel filter and checked out the fuel pump and the problem does not lie there. I was wondering if anyone knows where I should look next or if they know how to solve this problem. Thanks and please help!!

It is ignition related, check the ecm for trouble codes, then I would do a complete tune-up and if that doen't fix it then check the crank sensor which is what it sounds like anyway but it's cheaper to do a tune-up first just incase

My 1995 jeep will die just driving and sometimes will start right back up other times you have to wait about an hour. fuel pump is working fine you can hear it

The pump can be running but not pumping any fuel.
When it stops running you will need to figure out if you are loosing spark to the plugs or fuel to the injectors.

The most common cause of this is that the Crankshaft position sensor is defective, (in bell housing rear of engine just over the starter) but you will need to do a fault code scan to confirm this on the computer control module.

Sounds like while on your trek about, you may have bought fuel and it most likely had a large amount of water in the tank. I think you have water in you tank. How many miles do you have on this vehicle?Did your vehicle at any time on your trip get hot, in the red? One drop of water on a fuel filter will almost make it impermeable to its ability to pass fuel through it.There are many more unanswered questions that I have for you. mike

Jeep chocks, stalls, rpms shoot up n down n dies

Check fuel pump for pressure and output. If it's not that, don't start guessing... have a scanner put on it and get some codes. While some codes can be ambiguous, it will serve to start you in the right direction!
