Question about 2000 Land Rover Range Rover
Hello, Briefly, I purchased a '54' reg range rover vogue from Stratstone Landrover in Newport Pagnell, Milton Keynes in October 2006 at approximately £37,000. Subsequently, the vehicle has been back for various works including new pre heater system, new steering rack, differential works and many more. I feel like I live in their service department since buying this car. On 12/12/08 - the vehicle failed at a round about whilst in 'Drive' nearly causing an accident. Subsequently, it was towed to the dealership where I purchased the vehicle from. They failed to make contact for 10 days or diagnose the problem until 23/12/08 following a number of phone calls to them. I received a call on 23/12/08 to inform me that the automatic gearbox is defective on the vehicle and that it will cost £4000.00 to repair it. I wrote to them referring to my rights under the sale of goods act 1979, quoting that the vehicle is not fit for purpose nor satisfactory quality as you would not expect an automatic gearbox on a range rover to become defective in 4 years of its manufacture and 2 years of me owning it. I also wrote to Land Rover - today, they are offering to pay 33% towards the cost of the repair and the dealership is offering £500, leaving £2815.00 for the repair, which I cannot afford. In addition I believe that the gearbox is a design or manufacture fault and as such I am entitle to a repair or replacement. I have just read on a forum the table of life expectancy on components for land rover and it mentions that the gear box is a design problem due to poor construction. Is there anyway you can help me as I feel that they should either repair the vehicle or replace it.
Didnt you get a warrenty thrown in on a £37000 car,did this occur within 90 days of your purchase,if so go to trading standards you have a 90 day warrenty by law, sounds like they took there time finding the problem so they could not be liable for the repair bill, also visit the landyzone website i use it and its a great source of help and advise, get the landrover customer care no of another rr dealer and chat to lr people themselves and go to the vosa website and check on the recalls for range rovers.
