Question about 2000 Land Rover Range Rover

1 Answer

Range Rover Gearbox

Hello, Briefly, I purchased a '54' reg range rover vogue from Stratstone Landrover in Newport Pagnell, Milton Keynes in October 2006 at approximately £37,000. Subsequently, the vehicle has been back for various works including new pre heater system, new steering rack, differential works and many more. I feel like I live in their service department since buying this car. On 12/12/08 - the vehicle failed at a round about whilst in 'Drive' nearly causing an accident. Subsequently, it was towed to the dealership where I purchased the vehicle from. They failed to make contact for 10 days or diagnose the problem until 23/12/08 following a number of phone calls to them. I received a call on 23/12/08 to inform me that the automatic gearbox is defective on the vehicle and that it will cost £4000.00 to repair it. I wrote to them referring to my rights under the sale of goods act 1979, quoting that the vehicle is not fit for purpose nor satisfactory quality as you would not expect an automatic gearbox on a range rover to become defective in 4 years of its manufacture and 2 years of me owning it. I also wrote to Land Rover - today, they are offering to pay 33% towards the cost of the repair and the dealership is offering £500, leaving £2815.00 for the repair, which I cannot afford. In addition I believe that the gearbox is a design or manufacture fault and as such I am entitle to a repair or replacement. I have just read on a forum the table of life expectancy on components for land rover and it mentions that the gear box is a design problem due to poor construction. Is there anyway you can help me as I feel that they should either repair the vehicle or replace it.

I have a 2002 Range Rover vogue, its now done 78k miles ,at the moment its in the Land Rover dealership, they now tell me it needs a new box at a price of nearly 4k, I have today been ringing round and have found a company that will pick the vehicle up, from the dealership, take to their works which is 65 miles fit a recon. box that is guaranteed for 2 years, for the sum of £1400.00 plus vat, I too feelI spend a lot of my time (and money) at the dealership. My old Land Cruiser, that I still have has done nearly 200k miles and has only had, brakes and exhaust on it and it still drives like a dream

in the USA we have what is called a lemon law because my experience with cars someone from the dealership knew the condition the car was in before they sold it to you I truly believe also that you should not have to pay any out of pocket money Range Rovers are not cheap over here either

1st off we are mostly USA based experts on cars and SUV's, I suspect that the gearbox is not common issue, but owing that u did not get what u paid for the dealer should step up and pay this repair, also appeal to the manufacturer for out of warranty help, being a veteran of the car business this can work if u are nice and present your case well, do this, tell them that u have always been impressed with the reputation of the vehicle, and the automatic trans should have been more durable based on the road record of the Range Rover, also add that many friends come to u for advice about cars and u would like to give them a positive comment about the Range Rover, it works, have seen it 1st hand. All this is based on a acumulated mileage of less than 100,000 miles

Didnt you get a warrenty thrown in on a £37000 car,did this occur within 90 days of your purchase,if so go to trading standards you have a 90 day warrenty by law, sounds like they took there time finding the problem so they could not be liable for the repair bill, also visit the landyzone website i use it and its a great source of help and advise, get the landrover customer care no of another rr dealer and chat to lr people themselves and go to the vosa website and check on the recalls for range rovers.

good luck

Change 24 hour clock non military time

You could select the 12 Hour clock mode instead of 24 hour as it may be set at now.

Also it needs to be confirmed if the audio system fitted to your vehicle supports 12 hour clock. Please check the two documents below after turning to the section on Clock setting. The menus to set this could vary depending on which audio system you have.
