Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

I have a 2001 vw beetle. The Epc light came on after I had a problem with it stalling a few times then it acted fine for a few days.. after that I started having problems with it starting up and staying started. I will go to start it and it will turn over then stale. I can get it to stay started if I unplug the terminals and wait a min or so. Hook then back up, and it will start right up, but once I drive and go below 1000 rpms it stalls, then will start right back up like normal only one time. We have already replaced the o2 sensors, fuel pump, thermostat, and a few other things. Really would like to get it back on the road soon!

SOURCE: 2001 dodge grand caravan stalls

Check the sensors on the throttle body. There is a sensor that controls air to fuel ratio. If that sensor is bad then the car will run and then stall out while in drive. I had the same problem when it was cold outside last winter. If you dont want to dish out the money without knowing if it is that part at fault or not then start the van pop the hood and located the throttle body. Place your hand on the sensors and give them a little shake and then make sure they are plugged in all the way. You could also turn the van off and unhook the sensor clean the connectors and plug it back in. That should do the trick and if it doesnt stall anymore then I would replace those sensors if I was you. One more thing. If your giving the sensors a tug while the car is running and you hear it going to stall you could located the gas pedal cable and give it a rev or two by hand so it doesnt stall out and turn off. By the way. You van isnt over heating at all is it?

EPC stands for "electronic pedal control". It could be the problem you are experiencing, but not sure. There are several things associated with the EPC light.

I wnet out of gas on my VW Beetle 2001 last saturday. When I added gas to the tank, the car wouldn't start and the EPC light went on and I haven't been able to get it to start ever since. Would the EPC light have anything to do with the gas pump or anything related to running out of gas?

2001 VW Beetle Will not start

Hi.
Check the heavy duty cables from the battery to the starter motor and solenoid and also the battery earthing (grounding?) - there terminals could be corroded / burned.

Hope this helps you a bit. If it does, a "Fixya" rating would be much appreciated. If it doesn't
help you, I'd be grateful if you didn't bother with a rating at all. Just come back and tell me what you found. Cheers, D
