You can't reset a fault, until the fault is repaired that is causing the fail safe mode the problem will persist. You need the engine and or the Transmission control module scanned for fault codes.
Safe mode limits engine performance, and does not effect transmission, especially not by eliminating first and second.
The main way to get out of safe mode, is to remove the battery long enough for the whole system to discharge and reinitialize, so by changing the battery, you likely already did this.
More likely is why the battery died? If you have a wire rubbed through, that could be shorting everything? Have you done a voltage output check on charging system? But other than linkage switches, the transmission control module is inside the trans oil pan, where all the solenoids are. You can drop the pan to ensure all the connections are solid and jump the solenoids to ensure they are not burned out.
This is the best answer I could find but it appears that your owners manual has the answer in it unless you are in the position this person is in after disconnecting battery. Good luck.
You can google "reset pass key" for the exact procedure - - most Ford products can be reset by using the keyfob or by locking and unlocking the driver's door with the key.
something puts bcm into safe mode. take neg. battery cable off and touch it to pos. post for 30 sec. leave unconnected for 6 hrs then reconnect. should work after that. just did mine. dealer wanted 400$ to change door switch. doing this lets the bcm reset itself
Most of the time you can replace just the mirror housing for cheap if you can reuse the mirror. As for as just the black shroud i would recommend checking out www.usautoparts.com they have a very wide selection of just about everything needed to rebuild a damaged vehicle. If you cannot find one there i would recommend a reputable salvage yard.
