I have a project jeep I am struggling to figure out. It is backfiring when I get to a high RPM and am assuming I have a problem with my air fuel mixture. It is a TBI (fuel injected), any ideas on how I...

Back fire at a higher RPM?you need to look at the distributor, the internal part, the reluctor may have shifted causing the TBI to fire before the intake,

How to get to air fuel mixture screws for adjustment with carb on engine, no room to get flex screw driver to the screws ! This is on a 1984 Ford E-150 van with a 302.

Do you have a Holly on that ? if not then, you have to pull the carb. apart to adjust the fuel/air mix, are you talking about the idle air mix screws, this only adjust the idle mix, not the fuel ratio when running above idle, I have seen slots (screw driver) oval, hex screws, your going to have to see which one you have, take the air cleaner off and reach it from the front of the van.

How do i turn up the idle on a 2007 chevy uplander

With newer vehicles that have EFI, ( electronic fuel injection ), there are no mecanical adjustments you can make for the idle. Years ago you could just adjust the throttle cable, or, the air/gas mix.

For a bad idle, high or low, the most common causes are;

1. A dirty air filter.
2. A faulty MAF, ( mass air flow ), sensor.
These two prevent the ECM, ( electronic control module ), from determining the proper fuel/air mix ratio, which should be 1 part fuel to 14.7 parts air.

Another common cause for a bad idle is TPS, ( throttle position sensor ), sometimes the throttle body can be removed and cleaned and then reinstalled.

I hope this helps you.
Thanks, Donnie

The light Check engine is ON

Here are some very common causes for the engine light to com on.

1. Low fluids, make sure all of your fluid levels are where they should be, particularly the oil.

2. MAF, ( mass air flow ) sensor. This controls the fuel/air mix ratio to the engine.

3. Oxygen sensor, there are 2, ( front means before the catalytic converter, back means after the catalytic converter ) The front measure fuel/air mix, the back measure the emmisions from the fuel/air mix and tells the computer what adjustments need to be made to the fuel/air mix ratio.

I hope this helps you.

Im getting to much fuel my 1992 camaro rs 5.0L 305 v8 TBI. its running real rich. ive replaced the cooliant temp sensor, throttle position sensor, fuel pressure regulator, spark plug and wires, distributor...

The precatayltic O2 sensors or sensor may by malfunctioning. These are the O2 sensors that tells the ecm to adjust the air fuel ratio according to how much oxygen content is in the exhaust. If for some reason it thinks to much oxygen content is in the exhaust it will tell the ecm to add more fuel. The post catalytic O2 basically is used to monitor the catalytic converter function and should not adjust any air or fuel. Is the check engine light on and are any codes presnt?

Chevy V8 Hei dist. starts and runs fine at idle at higher rpm starts minimal back firing? When on gas hard and let off pedal big back fire? Could problem be bad stator/igniton part that fires off of star...

Yes...timing. Adjust the distributor...back it off a little and set the timing....also check your carb setting for rich/lean mix....air mix will cause this also.

What have you done to the system to cause this or were you trying to adjust something?

How to adjust air fuel mixture on a 87 suzuki samuria

On any carburator, one screw is for the idle speed, the other the air/fuel mix.Start the engine and let it get plenty warmed up. Adjust the idle screw to make the engine run slow. Turn the air/fuel screw in until the engine starts to die then out till it starts running loady. You want the screw between these two locations. Adjust it till the engine runs the fastest. Now adjust the idle speed screw to about 1000 RPM.
I hope this helps you.

Engine wont idle on my vitara jlx 1993

Check your air idle control valve, check for the wires to be fretted or broke, and also check the vacuum lines to it.
The air idle control valve mey be dirty and a good cleaning with throttle body clean through the throttle body may help clean the carbon build up.
If there is a Auto Zone, have the Vitara scanned for a DTC code.
Here is a few things you can do.
Checking  the IAC (it's called the ISC on Single Point TBI)
It is screwed to the throttle body, and has a 2 pin electrical connector) with an Ohmmeter - the solenoid should be 11 to 14 ohm.  If not, replace.

To test the IAC / ISC
Use a Duty Meter, and adjust the air adjust screw to get 50%.  If the revs are not right at that point, adjust some more to try to get them correct, but if the duty goes below 28%, a vacuum leak is highly likely.

Air Adjust screw for TBI / Single point   look on the Throttle Body, just below the fuel line and maybe an inch to the left of the Fuel Pressure Regulator - it looks like a cross head screw into the TB.

The 8v (Single Point / TBI) uses a throttle opener device to open the throttle extra during starting.  When the engine starts to run, a vacuum line is applied to the device through a vacuum servo valve, controlled by the ECM. The vacuum closes the throttle opener, to bring the revs down to normal.  The ECM will operate the VSV after about 10 sec from engine start (less if the coolant is warm).

Try these things for now and keep me posted. good luck.
