Did you ever find a solution to this? I believe I have the same problem with my 96 hombre. Something kills the fuel pump about once every 5 months. Did anything help??

1996 izzuz hombre ... turns over wont start sometimes . sometime does start. when start runs real rough, missing. things i know - new starter, new fuel pump, doesnt fire on 1st spark plug and no one know...

Your problem sounds like the distributor, points and pig tail wire.
I suggest you try changing the distributor / servicing the points and pigtail wire.

The reason why p 1 inst firing is cause it isn't getting any power from the distributor. because of this it has the ripple effect your experiencing.
