Question about 1998 Nissan Frontier

1 Answer

Okay so i replaced the flasher relay, and the fuse and the signals worked for a couple seconds then went out again. My hazards work so im assuming the flasher is fine. So tonight i tried replacing my multi function switch for the lights and signals and boom the same thing happens. works for a couple seconds then nothing. Also im hearing noise from the flasher that sounds like it not getting any power... any suggestions? i will check with multimeter tomorrow...

you have a busted bulb, your hazard may be working fine but the bulb is double contact so one part is working and the other is not. just check which bulb is busted.

My left turn signal recently stopped working. Before ceasing to work, the turn signal (just the left) would blink very rapidly (machine gun speed).

sounds like one of light bulbs was malfunctioning and caused the flasher unit to blink rapidly and iy burned out. Replace front and rear turn lite bulbs and see if flasher flashes. if not check fuse and replace fuse. If fuse okay replace flasher unit. Good luck

Hi, the likely problem is a bad flasher relay. You can see a couple of different styles here: http://www.theautopartsshop.com/auto+car-usa+parts/saturn+sl-series+flasher.html

I've seen a couple of different locations listed for the flasher in your car. One says it's on the back of the fuse panel, the other says it's under the middle of the dash. Stick your head under the dash and see if you can spot something like the pictures at that link above. There may be a separate flasher for the hazard lights. Try turning them on. If they work, trace the sound and you may find 2 flashers there. You can see which is which by pulling each out with the hazards flashing. They will stop flashing when you pull out the hazard relay. Please let me know if you have more questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

My blinkers sometimes dont work? looked at the fuse and it seemed okay but i replaced it anyway..seemed to work fine for a couple months now its doing it again...could it be an electrical problem or turn...

Try replacing the Flasher Relay. It has 2 relays, one for the turn signals and one for the hazard lights. The one for the turn signals is located Front seating area, driver side, under dash, behind instrument panel, mounted on passenger side of steering column.
The hazard flasher is located Front seating area, driver side, under dash, above kick panel, mounted in top of convenience panel.
Replace the Turn signal flasher.

Have hazard lights but no running or turn signals

sounds like you need a combo flasher assembly..located in fuse block inside vehicle under steering column..there may be a plastic cover under dash you have to remove to see fuse block..large black relay that plugs into fuse block..if you pick up a new one,you will see what it looks like..available at dodge dealer..combo flasher or drl/signal relay

Turn signal

The wire under the hazard button has probably come loose. Most GMC vehicles this year range were made with a closed circuit wiring between the flashers, hazard lights, and rear defrost. Over time the wiring under the hazard button has been known to loosen. This causes the whole system to lose function. If pop out the hazard button on you center console you should be able to tighten that wire back on and the system should work again.
The same thing happened to me when I put in a new radio. I bumped the wires off and my blinkers, rear defrost, and hazard lights went out. I replaced the fuses and the flasher relay but nothing. Then I asked a mechanic and he told me what I just told you.
Hope it helps!

YJ Blinker Relay

Hi there,

Both the hazard and the blinker flashers are located on the fuse panel. They pull straight out.

When both turn signals fail, the cause may be a blown fuse, a faulty flasher, a broken turn signal switch or a bad connection.

When you try the turn signals, do they light up and not blink?
-If so, probably the flasher unit.

When you try the turn signals, does nothing happen?
-Check the fuse

Let me know if the problem continues after replacing the flasher.
