Obviously there is a short somewhere in the unit. Unplug it, so you don't get a shock, and use an ammeter. Separate circuits if you can to find the shorted one.
pcm fuse blows instantly ???? What number fuse , how many amps ? Where is it located ? under hood fuse box . ECM fuse 10amp ,underhood fuse box ????
When does the fuse blow ? when you turn the key to the start position . How about when you turn it to just on position ? Replacing the ignition switch an the column ????? Why did you replace these ? You think it was going to fix the problem ? or someother problem ? Bad computer maybe .
I am wondering if the fuse blows instantly or whether it lasts a while?
Fuse ratings for cars are usually mean or average values so a 20 amp fuse needs roughly 40 amps to cause it to instantly fail. I have not heard of a cigarette lighter needing that much current so I guess there is a fault that should be located and cured before you have a fire.
Maybe it is the element that is faulty...
I think fitting a 25 amp fuse would be slightly foolish...
check the wire from the ac clutch back and look for a dead short to earth . look for pinched wire. Wire worn by drive belt etc. Any indication of where a live wire is touching earth.
hello same pronlem with my 98 durango but right turn signal!
what it was is the 4 pin connector for the tow package had the insulationripped off them i guess whe backing out of a steep driveway it sxrapped! so the headlights, turn signals, and brake circuits where grounding out! quick fix!
sounds like a wiring problem or short, check with tester.if wiring is alright check your brake switch normally on or near the brake pedal as this can be defective.
the problem could be coming from the indicator relay as doesn't blow fuse instantly, try with the 4 way flasher on and see if relay get over heated , electronics work in weird and varied ways ,most fuses supply power to more than one function , check what the other function's run from the problem fuse , this will , hopefully explain why the engine cuts out,
First off the reason for instant fuse blow is because this is a positive wire grounding out or touching/crossing a grounded surface. I would first target the Cig lighter outlet connections also if the outlet is rusty inside looking, replace it.
