How do i tighten a loose screeching belt on an '01 accent gs 1.6L

The belt is adjusted by the position of the alternator. Loosen the bottom mounting bolts. Loosen the adjusting bolt in the top bracket & using a suitable lever, pry the alternator outwards until the belt is tight. Do not tighten it too tight. you should be able to deflect the belt down about 3/4 -1" when tightened. Hold the bar to maintain this tension on the belt and tighten the top adjusting bolt. Re-tighten the two bottom bolts. Check the deflection of the belt once more to ensure it is not to tight.
