I just had the same problem. I went through changing the fuel pump, and it did not fix it.
This is what worked for me...

under the hood, on the passenger side of the engine compartment, there should be a black plastic cover. Under this you will find three relays. I believe it was the one with the brown plug. This should be your fuel pump relay. That was my problem.

p.s. a fuel filter may not be a bad idea.

Have a 1988 ford bronco 2 9 engine that when a sparkplug is removed it will start but run rough.when plug is put back in it will not start at all.

Does it turn over and just not start or does it not turn over at all with sll plugs in it? Try to jump start it with another vehicle. Your problem could be a weak battery or starter.

I turn-up my spark plugs, wires, and distributor.. Which it is all new... But one thing.. I SCREW UP!!! I lost where all the order spark goes.. So I went through web site to find the problem.. I found... has all sorts of online guides with this information. It does require registration, but it is simple to do. I do believe the #1 piston is the first one from the front of the car on the driver side usually.

Spark plug and cap wiring for 1985 ford bronco 2

When your facing the front of your bronco looking into engine compartment, on left hand side in sequence is 1, 2, 3 front to back. on right hand side it's 4,5,6, front to back. The distributor rotates clockwise. On the top of the distributor, is 1-4-2-5-3-6 starting at the little mark on the cap or TDC. Hope that helped.
