Chrysler 2001 town and country power steering problem

I have a 2001 Chrysler town and country v6. It started out making a grinding noise and became stiff when trying to turn the steering wheel. Now it is making a loud whining noise, leaks power steering fluid almost immediately after putting it in and is pretty much impossible to turn the wheel at all. What could be causing this problem?

The power steering pump is bad! God-Bless! or the rack and pinion leaks, check the pump first. the pump whines if low on fluid or bad.

SOURCE: Ignition key will not turn

Thanks to the person with the wd40 suggestion. stuff that little red tube right up there and liberally spray. I just had the panic when I went to drive to the store in my 98 town & country and the key didn't turn. I read lots of varying solutions and was ready to get the emergency locksmith out here to replace the barrel and then I stumbled across that suggestion here. It made so much sense...and it worked. The barrel will probably still need to be replaced at some point, but not urgent.
thanks again!

Engine whining

check your power steering fluid level. when level gets low low the pump will start to make noise, also in colder weather the fluid becomes thicker and if the pump is starting to fail it will create noise also,

Power steering making a whirring noise

If it is making the noise when turning the wheel while stationary or parallel parking, then the fluid level may be low.

If it is not low then the pump itself is wearing out if it has a grinding noise.

Changing the power steering pump is recommended.

Good luck on this repair.
