Question about 1995 Ford Mustang GT

Replaced the ICM, PCM, new distributor i installed is when the problem started. Had a bad miss before i replaced the distributor. run fine after i replaced it for a short period of time. then just started stutting down after it warmed up

Try changing the ECM instead you might get lucky.

Yes a fuel filter can cause the problem but I would say it's most likely the fuel pump or fuel pump relay. Can you hear the fuel pump running when you turn on the ignition?

Replace the distributor's magnetic pickup located inside the distributor surrounding the distributor shaft, the only other thing thankfully on this ignition system if memory serves me on the f 150 straight six 300 cu inch is the dura spark ignition control box, of course do the obvious tune up parts replacement dist.cap rotor,plug , sparkplugs before spending the $40.00 - $50.00 bucks on the dist.. pick up, you may have a weak a fuel pump check for adequate fuel pressure at carb 7 - 10 lbs.

This is a long shot, but maybe the fuel pump relay or pump is shutting down when it gets hot. It sounds like a fuel problem to me. Good-Day! Hope this helps! also check and or replace fuel filter, and air filter.

94 camaro wont start...no firefrom the coil has new icm , coil , fuel pump


Check the icm plug with a led testlight for pulse while the engine is cranking. Test the wire connector with the small wires going into the coil for pulse.The v8 has a opti-spark distributor behind the waterpump that is prone to failure. It has the pickup inside it that tells the icm when to spark. If no pulse at icm distributor is bad. If pulse at icm but not at coil, icm or wiring between icm and coil is bad.The coil also needs pos.+ power on 1 terminal to operate. Be SURE to check the security light on the dash. If VATS [vehicle anti theft system] fails its usually within the 2 wires going from the key chip in the ignition tumbler to the body control module. Mine were purple and tan.Trying to start it with the wrong key can put it in lockout mode also. There are bypass modules available online for vats problems or you can even install a resistor in the wire to bypass the keychip part and the door alarms still work.

My 93 nissan altima stalled while driving and will not start back. put on a new coil, new fuel pump. still will not start. is it the crank sensor or distributor?


First, verify all connections at distributor (both ends of each cable) are securely connected and inspect all lengths of each plug wire to make sure there are no major breaks, cuts, burns, abrasions that would be causing a short. Then, try another plug just to make sure it's not a bad spark/coil wire. If still no spark, then I would say rotor/distributor cap/distributor/ICM module (Ignition Control Module) is the problem. You can generally buy those parts seperate, or you can buy a whole distributor that typically has all combined. The ICM can usually be removed without too much difficulty and taken to an autoparts store for a test, but not always. If you go with the "piecemeal" solution, start with ICM test (if removable), then rotor cap, then move to distrubutor cap. If nothing has worked to this point, you can replace the distributor, but you have already bought everything BUT the actual distributor. It would make sense to price everything seperately versus cost of new distributor...up to you.

If you do replace the distributor, be absolutely sure to mark the position/direction the rotor cap is pointed on old one, so you can re-install the new one in exact same position. Otherwise finding TDC (top dead center) on #1 cylinder is another whole process.

92 lumina apv cranks but wont start


As you know this is a fairly simple system.
The pickup coil in the dist signals the module and computer when to fire the plugs and injectors. If you are getting a pulse to the injectors you should be getting a pulse to the ICM.
Is it possible there is a break in the harness to the dist or the ICM ?
And is it possible the distributor is not turning or not in time ?
Can you make and break ground on the new coil to make it spark ?
You may have to go back over everything again and see if you missed something.

1992 f150 5.0 idles rough and stalls when driving


iac valve means idle air controle iff its injectors you can do a pressurized injector clean take a noid light and test them for signal but your best answer is one of three, iac valve, wrong fireing order, wich i have seen numerouse times on the 5.0, and included in fireing order is timing, or catalitic converter the cat would creat the coads for the parts you changed hoped this helped

Check the electronics in the distributor. Chevs are notorious for the electronics going bad inside of the distributor.

I have a 1996 c1500 with a 305 it will start and run for about 3 mins than start running rough and then shut off.you have to wait about an hour before it will start again


Replace the fuel filter first and inspect your ICM (Ignition Control Module). Faulty ICM will fail when it starts to heat up and the engine will do what you have described.
Start with the simple and replace the fuel filter and have the ICM tested and replaced if it's bad. The wire leads to the ICM is also know to go bad from corrosion due to condensation that forms under the distributor cap.

Installed new distributor in 97 Chevy Vortec V6


Check the wire harness to the Ignition control module (ICM) or replace it. It cost around $40,00 from Auto Zone and it's common for the ICM to fail, or it may just be starting to fail and it's also know that the OEM distributor had a screen vent at the bottom of the distributor for ventilation to prevent condensation from forming in the distributor. Check to make sure your new distributor has a vent and that it's not plugged up with shipping plastic. Condensation may be forming causing the misfire in the distributor. get rid of this car sir, its a lemon. With everything you've changed the only thing left is checking parimeters on a scan tool for the senors. But you gotta know what your looking at.
