SOURCE: Front end grind when I turn left or right on 04 F150

If this is a 4x4 it sounds like you have a bad front axle shaft look under the front wheels to see if the rubber boots are torn and grease comming out of them. If the look ok then the problem may be in the front differential.

2005 f150 front hubs noisey goes away when put in 4 wheel drive then back in two.

This is either the IWE ( Integrated Wheel Ends ) solenoid or the vacuum lines / check valve / reservoir for the vacuum system

This is a block diagram of the IWE vacuum system
sscullys_37.jpg

There is a TSB on the IWE solenoid for the 04 to early build 06 MY F-150s ( right click save as )
http://my.voyager.net/~sscully/file_tsb06_08_15.pdf

This is for the early build where water can get into the IWE vacuum system, causing weak vacuum at the IWE, and the spring is part engaging.

With the engine running, pull the IWE vacuum line ( not the vent line ) and measure vacuum, to make sure it is being applied. This is done with the Mode selector switch in 2WD and the engine must be running ( in park, take safety precautions, chock wheels, parking brake, etc )

Until you can get it fixed, pull the vacuum lines on the IWE ( make sure it is the vacuum line, not the vent line that runs into the engine compartment, and just hangs up there ).
This is so the IWE gear is not being ground down while driving it. The front axle is engaged when you do this, so MPG will suffer, but the truck is just pushing a dead front axle, the transfer case is not turning the front shaft. This is just to try to minimize further damage to the IWE gear ( which can cause a need to replace the IWEs ).

'04 Ford F150 S-Crew Lariat. power adjustable pedals, power seat, and power mirror were all working until a couple of weeks ago. Now, none of these work, the fuse my manual says to check is good. Is...

There are some relays located in the fuse box under the hood.( Drivers side, located directly in front of the power booster for the brakes. open the lid & you will find 2 rows of fuses & 5 relays) you will have to refer to the owners manual for the diagram for the electrical fuses & relays.

2006 F-150: 06 ford f150 will not go into 4wheel drive...

Is the system ESOF ( Electronic Shift On the Fly ) or MSOF ( Mechanical Shift On the Fly ) ?

Operationally vacuum holds the IWE ( Integrated Wheel Ends ) out, and once vac is removed the spring engages the IWE.
Usually the problem ( with 04-08 MY ) is the front axle will not disengage.

Lift and support the front of the truck so the front wheels are off the ground ( take safety precautions, chock wheels, jack stands, etc )
Key on, engage 4x4 and try to turn the front drive shaft.
If it turns it is a problem with the transfer case.
If it doesn't it is a front axle engagement problem.

- If the front drive shaft does not turn :
Shut of the truck ( still jacked up, and supported ) remove the vac lines from the IWE. The spring should push the gears in, without the vac line on. Actually any time the truck is not running, after the vacuum bleeds out, the front IWEs will engage while it is parked.

Here is a block diagram of the IWE system
64f8118.jpg

If the front axle turns, the shift motor ( on the ESOF ) would be the issue. Some times the connector on the back of the transfer case gets corroded and needs to be cleaned. Other problems could be a hung up shift motor, some have tapped on the back of the transfer case to free it up again.

Auto locking hub sucks is there a aftermarket manual locking hub kit

Unlike the 97-03 MY F-150s, the 04-08 MY use vacuum to hold the IWE ( Integrated Wheel End ) out, and once vacuum is removed the IWE spring engages the gears to lock the wheels to the front axle.

I have not seen a replacement front axle with manual hubs yet, checking Warn's site. Maybe check with Warn, but from the application list, 1996 was the last F-150 hub conversion kit they make. SuperDuty is 04, but that is an option from Ford up until 04.

How to get the front drive shaft past the sway

it comes out without lowering the sway bar
you unbolt both ends of the shaft and pull the front part out past the front diff towards the front of the engine and the rear part of the shaft will just fall out if you cant figure it out
just remove the 4 15mm bolts that hold the sway bar to the frame and it will lower enough that will get it out no problem at all
