Take it back but before you do take out the bad fuel pump from your car and take it with you to the store so as to get the right one you need to replace it.

Are the wires on the new fuel pump connector color coded? Can you match up the wire colors? If not color coded, can you go abcd on the wiring connector? Compare one connector to the other.

Keeps blowing fuel pump fuses. any ideas why?

Hi well im assuming that this is something that has just started , the first thing you need to do is start at the basics, get under the truck and go to the fuel tank. try to access the fuel pump connector (4 wire connector on top of fuel tank) may be able to excess from area between the frame rail and tank on drivers side ,if that tank is a side mount tank. unplug this connector and try to install a fuse .. DONT INSTALL A LAGER FUSE THEN RECOMMENDED OR HARNESS DAMAGE MY AND WILL ACCUR . If the fuse stays intact u most probably have a shorted fuel pump

Need to take gas tank off a 2003 Buick rondevous

You will need a lift or really tall jack stands to do it on the ground, a almost empty gas tank is ideal since your body strength is limited laying on your back with a hard to manage 200 lbs of full gas tank over your face, a pump jack and a 2x4 to put on the pump jack head to help even the load upon removal. Remove the tank straps with the jack in place on the tank and the vehicle in the raised position Once tank is coming down use a flashlight to see the top of the tank At this point there are special tools needed to do the job, spray some wd40 on the connectors both fuel and electrical because the years of road grime have loaded up inside the connectors and this will help aid in the removal . Also on some electrical connectors there are red safety tabs that pull out to allow the connected to be released. You will need fuel disconnect tools, multi color plastic tools in various line sizes to realese the fuel line from the pump one blue one yellow Once lines are off and connectors are off. You l need to remove the fuel inlet hose (where the gas goes in) and the vent to evap canister hose. Now depending on the fuel pump there are a few different styles of pump fasteners, the most common on gm products is the metal ring that you will need a hammer and either a flat head screw driver or long punch tool to release, the wd40 will have soaked into this ring also by now helping you tap the ring off in a counter clockwise motion. Be careful not to drop dirt into the tank, the best thing to do is to blow compressed air over the area to blow the dirt away but some don't have a compressor laying around to do this. Slowly pull out pump and make sure the gas don't pour all over your work area. Inspect the new pump and match them up to be positive the connectors match and that the fuel level sensors are not in a bind and free in motion before reinstallation . My personal opinion is to take it to a shop and save the headache and expense of buying tools you may never use again, but some tools can be rented from auto parts stores. Good luck

Can i put a electric fuel pump on frame and still draw fuel through pump in tank?

should be able to but the fuel pressure will be greatly reduced and the vehicle will not run properly..if money is an issue then do what I did..go to a towyard and purchase an entire fuel tank..(told them mine was leaking)..some states will not sell tanks because of EPA rules so be aware of this..be careful of the wiring connectors because in just a few months difference between models will be tough to match the connector between the tank and wiring harness.

My aunts 1997 Jimmy was towed to my Dads .Cranks but no start, after batt. charged. They had been hitting bottom of fuel tank, and would start. But not anymore . Dad replaced pump.Had to rewire connectors for...

I would recommend checking the "re-wire job and make sure it is done correctly. Many GMs have had problems with the connectors at the fuel pumps. The fuel pump manufacturers have re-designed the connector to correct the problems they have been having. This is WHY the re-wire is required. The fuel pump kits usually come with the new connector to complete the job. However, some of the kits have wire colors that do not match the wire colors on the vehicle harness, Some of them also have "duplicate" colors, like two black wires. One will be a larger gauge than the other one. I had a couple where the white wire on the new connector had to be wired to the purple wire on the vehicle harness, etc. If your dad did not follow the directions EXACTLY then this could be the cause of your problem. (The pump MAY be running backwards)

hi, if you bought a new fuel pump assembly you are one of many who had problems with the connectors. so your not alone. the fuel pump manufacturers changed the plug configuration to solve a problem with the existing plug, the plug being replaced is the square plug on the left. the new pump assembly came with the new pigtail and you need to cut off the connector(close to the plug so you have enough wire) and ****-connect the new plug onto the trucks wires. the wires will be color coded to match the old wires, they maybe dirty and oily so you will probably have to clean them to tell the difference. also the pump should come with a diagram to help solve the wire problem.

The wires should be grey, orange and black, purple, and a black wire. The purple goes to purple, grey to gray. The orange and black goes to the small black wire on your car harness and the black goes to the bigger black.
