Question about 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500HD
First I would check to make sure there is/is not 12v going into the blower motor. You can test this with a volt meter by unpluging the two wire plug that plugs into the blower motor. This is located under the passengers side glove box. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE 12V TO THE BLOWER MOTOR (WHILE THE BLOWER IS TURNED ON WITH THE KEY ON) PROCEED TO THE NEXT PARAGRAPH. If you do have 12v, then it more than likely is your blower motor.
If this isn't the problem then I would check the Blower Motor Resistor. This part controls the speed in which the motor actually turns. (the knob in the dash doesn't actually resist the 12v from the battery causing the fan to move at the different speeds, the blower motor resistor does) This part is easily changed. It usually takes about 20-30 mins at the most. It is located in the air ducting under the passenger's side of the dash. The part is pictured here...
Now. I have done this work on a 2005 Chevy 1500 and the resistor that all parts stores has is WRONG!!! The listing is wrong! (I work for O'Reilly Auto Parts and I fought with this for about a week trying to find the right one...) If your resistor has 3 mounting screws (as shown above) you will need a resistor off of a 2000 Chevy Impala (part number RU867 - It is manufactured by Borg-Warner with a life time warranty.) If you look it up for your truck (i.e. - 2000 Chevy 1500) it will show a part number RU1064. This resistor will have only 2 mounting screws. I don't know why these parts are listed wrong, but they are.
To change this part, just remove the screws, and unplug both electrical plugs. Thats it. Then just replace it with the old one.
Any further questions, just ask!!! Please rate!!! Thanks!!!
