Upon starting the SUV this squealing starts, it sounds like metal rubbing, after driving about 5-6 blocks the ABS lights come on. What is the problem?

SOURCE: squealing engine

My guess without hearing it, is that you have a loose or worn belt causing the screeching, or squeeling noise your hearing, but as far as sluggish goes, that may be another thing all together. I'd suggest having your belts looked at and adjusted or replaced as necessary. Once it's confirmed or not that your noise was from that or maybe even a tensioner, then we can go from there. In the meantime, chek your oil level just as a precaution, if you haven't lately, and top it up as needed. They are usually a pretty reliable car, so I wouldn't hit the panic button on it being an engine problem yet.

SOURCE: loud squealing from power steering pump - do I need new PS pump?

Hi Norman,

Sounds like the adjustment may not be correct on the power steering belt, with the tension not being enough, after you replaced the belt ?

Try giving it a little more tension, and go from there.

Hope I have been of help.

Good Luck !

John.

SOURCE: '96 Toyota 4-Runner makes a loud squealing noise and brake light

Sounds like one of the auxillary belts slipping it may just need tightening up. I think the 4-Runner has two belts one large and one for the steering pump

SOURCE: squealing sound every time I start my van

you need to adjust the alternator belt, do adjustment a little bit tightening a bit. this will solve the problem. Or just change a new belt if the belt has crack.

the squealing when starting the motor is your drive belts they need adjusting or you can rub a little soap over the inside of the belt/s that will solve the problem until you get it fixed, it also sounds like you need your carbies adjusted as well and if you dont know how to do this take it to a service person who can do both jobs for you its not a costly job good luck

Sounds like you have a cv joint problem, or the front brake pads are worn down to metal and rubbing against the rotor, also could be the wheel bearing. Better have it checked.

1995 dodge neon below 10mph foot on the brakes the abs noise no light it sounds like a drinding noise

Brake pads are worn out. The ABS light would not come on because there is nothing wrong with the ABS. The grinding you are hearing are the brake pad backing plates rubbing against the rotor. You should have heard a high pitched squeal long before this happened. More than likely the rotors are now destroyed and will need replacing or at the very least turned in a machine shop. Fix this yesterday.
