Question about 2002 Jaguar X-Type

Flat battery on s type 2001

I use my car to go to work each day which is 3 miles each way.
by the end of the week the battery is flat and car wont start.
i took it to the garage but was told they couldnt find anything wrong and the s type is known for getting a flat battery after short journeys as the electrics dont cut out when the car is turned off but continue for a while.
i have even tried taking the car for a 25 mile run once a week to try and get some juice into the battery but to no avail, it still goes flat on me after a week of short journeys,
has anybody had the same problem/ any suggestions ?

Hi

Sounds like the battery to me.

Have they done a heavy discharge test on your battery at the garage, and can assure you it is 1OO% ?

The alternator is supposed to keep the battery topped up on charge nicely, even if it is only a few mile run every day, with your head lamps and heater going full blast, and then your fan runs on after switch off.
By the way it should only run for short time, how long have you heard yours run ?
Possibly the thermal switch is staying on too long ?

Did they test your charging rate on your alternator too, at your garage ?

How old is the battery ?

Is it of recommended type ? and not a cheepie from Halfords ?

Hope I have been of some help.

Good Luck

John.

The 12 volt battery(LUCAS 065/3) on my FORD FIESTA 1100cc is 4 years old, in that time i have only driven 1,600 miles as my journeys are usually very local. I make sure i use the car twice a week to keep...

Running so few miles has accelerated the aging of the battery - the battery never had a chance to fully recharge in such small trips -  so now you have to replace it a year sooner than usual.
Just replace it.

Car won't start. Replaced battery. worked 3 days. They said it was the alternator. REplaced with new. worked another 4 days. had it check with advance auto said battery good, starter cranking normal....

if there is no charging then its back to the alternator or the way its hooked up? did you recharge your flat battery with a mains charger after it went flat the first time? as no alternator will charge a battery from flat to fully charged,,,,even if you drove around the world none stop! the new alternator may have given up working becouse you overloaded the voltage regulator trying to recharge a flat battery witch would mean it was very week to start with?

Battery drains after 40 t 60 days.replaced alternator and battery but it happened again

is the car just stood up doing nothing or are you only doing short trips 3 or 4 miles a day?
every time you start your car it takes 20 minuets of driving to put back what you took out the battery and thats with out head light/heaters on?
drive it further or walk?
if its stood up for months its likley to be the alarm draining the battery running it up once a week wont do any good realy. its the same thing as boing whats above?
if its just standing around get the bigest solor sell as you can find say 10 wats and hook that up to the battery,,, then its problem solved

Good battery, will not start (sometimes)

Check the battery terminals for corrosion or looseness. If they are tight and free of corrosion then you probably have a bad terminal on the end of the battery cable. Hope this helps. Good luck
