It fried the control mudgel on the distributer,It is on the back part of the distributer, Buy the bottom of the distributer cap,

does it have spark? you did verify fuel pump working properly? could it have a clogged converter? is the engine lite on?

Sometimes when a starter is starting to go bad they will do this. As they heat up they won't spin fast enough to get the car started. Take it to an auto parts store and have them test it several times to recreate it being hot and they should be able to let you know if it is good or not.
