Had that problem with a Dakota about the same year. No check engine lights or anything. Had no power wouldn't rev up. Turned out the catalytic converter was clogged & the truck couldn't breath when it was trying to push out too much exhaust. Hope this helps, let us know how it turns out.

30 HP @ 800 RPM, 80 HP @ 2000 RPM, 120 HP @ 3100 RPM, & 140 HP @ 4200 RPM. torque is another story. Best torque is at 2000 RPM and is 213 FT LBS of torque. Why does my 2000 Chevy Malibu surge at 2000 rpm


I believe, that there is a short in the fuel pump kill switch which is located on the top inside the gas tank. I had GM replace the whole thing including fuel pump. It took awhile to figure this out, since it didn't show up in thier diags. Since then no problems.

What should a 2000 s-10 4.3 idle at? how many rpm?


650 RPM warm
About 1100 RPM cold

Both can vary by about 50 RPM and still be ok.

My truck stalls or shuts off at 2000 rpm


Check EGR valve its probably stuck open cause of carbon build up. Check and or replace.
EGR valve controls idle speed.

Sporatic rpm increase at 2000 rpm (increases to 4000 by itself)


change tranny fluid with mercon v also can add friction modifier (ford part# m-19546-a) and be sure to drain torque converter as well. should fix ya
