SOURCE: I have a code po453

This Code means the Evaporative Emission pressure switch has a high reading. Something may be clogged, see what the parts clerk recommends. Sometimes a purge valve fails to open and the cannister gets saturated, straightens out when switch works.

code p0453 refers to evaporative emission (EVAP) pressure sensor-- high out put === causes wiring short to positive--- EVAP pressure sensor--- ECM
I would change the sensor unless you have been messing with the wires.

Po453 code for 1998 gmc sierra

P0453 - Fuel Tank Pressure (FTP) Sensor Circuit High Voltage-this usually means the vent solenoid is defective and needs replacement, but I would clear the code with a scanner (or disconnect the negative battery cable for five minutes) and see if it comes back-often this is set by:

  • Open on FTP sensor signal wire
  • Short to voltage on FTP sensor signal wire
  • Bad FTP sensor
  • Abnormally high pressure in fuel tank due to blockage in EVAP purge hoses or overfilled tank
  • Loose/damaged FTP sensor connector
  • Loss of ground to the sensor
