Question about 1991 Oldsmobile Bravada

1 Answer

Right front brake drags

The right front brake drags for about 30 seconds after I release the brakes. I have replaced the caliper but it did not help. If I open the bleader on the caliper it releases right away. I have checked the ABS wheel sensor and it checks good.

Replace the flex line the rubber line between the car and the caliper. The inside of flex line can collapse making the back flow to release the caliper extremely slow. You can confirm the line is the problem by doing two tests. Pump the brakes up and undo the line at the caliper and it should release the caliper. Pump them up again and then undo the flex line at the steel line going to the master cylinder this should not change anything. Let me know if your findings are different and we can go from there. Mike

Mazda5 rear right brake gets hot, sometimes smells burning.

Try simple/free things first: put car on jack stands, turn wheels to see if you hear pads/shoes dragging after brake pedal on/off,pads should free-float after brake pedal release and if not releasing (by the way,was any brake fluid spilled accidentally on the pads??),more than likely bad caliper;sure the pads are correct ones (thickness) for your car rotors/calipers???. Hope this helps. Alberto

I'm having a problem with the front-right brake where it's apparently getting very hot. The whole vehicle just recently had a brake job done, drums in back and discs in front. I ended up having to replace...

the brake is getting hot, because it is dragging, i see you have replaced the brake caliper and master cylinder the only thing left is the brake hose that aitches to the caliper, it must not be releasing the fluid back to the master cylinder.

hear is a way to test the brake system to find out what is causing the drag.

jack up the car and place on jack stands, have someone pump up and hold the brakes, wile you put pressure on the wheels, the instant the brake peddle is released the wheel should turn easily, if it does not open the bleeder if the wheel instantly turns easily then you need to replace the hose if not then replace the caliper.

The right front brake drags and gets hot

When it drags, loosen the bleeder, if it releases, the hose is bad, if it does not release, the caliper is bad.

One brake rotor gets very hot after 30 miles

on the wheel that is hot, jack it up and see it the wheel spins free or drags? if it drags, then loosen bleeder on the caliper, it if now spins free, you want to replace that caliper hose, if it is still dragging, then the caliper piston is stuck and you will need to replace it.

1999 tahoe.right front brake caliper slow to release.

Besides changing the caliper did you by chance chg. the break hose going to it, there a 2-way hose fluid goes to caliper and returns thru same hose, and they have been known to cause what you have just discribed.

Front brakes not releasing properly.

Sounds like the caliper needs replaced. Sometimes the pistons lock in the caliper and cause the brakes to drag. When the mechanic changed the brakes before, he pushed the pistons in all the way to accomodate the new brake pads. Now that they are wearing back down, it is getting to the warped spot in the caliper and starting to stick.
