Question about 2000 Ford Excursion

1 Answer

I believe there is an obstruction of old fuel sediment clogging my fuel line at the entry point to the carb. How do I access the line at this point to check for obstructions? I have replaced the fuel filter and the fuel pump does kick on when ignition is engaged, it just wont crank over. I have tried accessing the line from underneath the truck and from under the hood. Help please.

Have you had the fuel line off? To see if the fuel is comeing though it. When you sart it up, Your vehicle should have fuel injection end not a carb, Unless there was a motor put in it from a older (Vehicle) It could be a Defective fuel pump (Relay) Fuel pump regulator, Or the fuel injectors, Or the cam sensor, Or the (Coil) Packs) Or evan the (PCM)

Charged up will run 500-600 yds and die wait 15 min.will go another 500-600 yds

Sounds like an alternator or fuel problem. Do you have 14+ V across the battery when the car is running? If so suspect fuel filter/pump. Is the fuel line pressurized after it stalls out? Sediment in the fuel filter will cause restricted flow and will cause the 15 wait cycle for sediment to settle out allowing for another round of fuel to pass through before clogging again..

Some possible solutions (from general experience (i'm 55 yrs old)): 1. Plugged up fuel filter; Replace it. Part costs less than $10.00.If the filter is just in front of the tank, it should take a screwdriver and 15 minutes or less to swap. 2. Water in the fuel tank; Add a bottle of "Heat" to the tank. Cost ~ $3.50 or less. This next may require some trouble shooting or head scratching first. DO #1 & #2 First. (Won't hurt & Doesn't cost much) 3a. Partly clogged fuel line. 3b. Cracked fuel line. (Sucks air into the fuel line) Depends where the fuel pump is.(Also look for fuel leaks, especially around hoses in the fuel line.) 3c. Clogged carb.Filter (if it exists). Verify fuel delivered to Carb by disconnect @ Carb. attach small hose to catch container then turn on (NOT Start) ignition.Should hav a steady flow of fuel for at least several seconds. If so, Replace carb. filter. 4. Weak/ failing fuel pump. Major pain but backyard mech can do it with helpmay take half a day.May need to have a few empty gas cans available to save the existing fuel.. Replacement In-Tank pump assembly should be less than $50.00.

How do I change the fuel filter on a 67 buick electra?

Fuel filter could be clogged.Take line loose and turn engine over, see if gas comes thru.If it does and gas gets past fuel filter, the carb is probably clogged. If filter is in line at carb connection be careful when replacing so you do not strip the fittind when hooking it back up...your post said this car is a 1967

Trying to find where the inline fuel filter is located on a 1988 ford country squire station wagon it is supposed to be on or near the frame on drivers side

Ford had a small fuel filter up near ware the fuel line comes into the eighter the carb or fuel injector main on some fuel injucter engines . Im not sure what engine you have .But my ford use to give me a lot of problems with this filter until i cut into the fuel line and added a inline filter before it mine is an 85 . So look where the fuel line attaches to the fuel inlet its a 3 or 4 dollar part but its a vary fine mesh filter and clogs easy the older the vehicle is the more sediment you end up with in your tank .I did mine 10 years ago haven't had a problem sence Good luck

1987 jeep wrangle will not start or run

Uncouple the fuel line coming from the pump at the carburetor, place a clean can under the line, and have someone operate the starter--you should have fuel shoot from the line in spurts as the engine turns. If it does, then the entry port on the carburetor is plugged. Remove the float assembly and pull out the float needle valve. Hook the fuel line back to the carburetor and try the starter again, there should be fuel pumping into the float bowl. If not, check to see if there is a filter on the fuel inlet path that may be plugged. If no filter, remove the float needle seat to see if something is blocking the fuel passage. If all else fails, use compressed air to blow backwards through the needle seat (remove the fuel line again). Hope some of this helps!

1995 buick century stalls while driveing, will start up with no problem, runs great otherwise

It sounds like the motor stops receiving fuel at some point. This can be caused by either a clogged fuel filter or the fuel pump going bad. It's a tricky problem because in order to check the pump you need to have a fuel pressure guage hooked up to the fuel line and on top of that the problem would have to happen just at that time so you can see the pressure drop.Change filter first.Sediments in the filter may be floating into the outlet periodically stopping the fuel flow, the car shuts off and the sediments float away enabling the car to start again
