Question about Cars & Trucks

My steering wheel is loose. When i started the truck i tilted the steering wheel and everything went dead now i can not start it. Is it because the steering wheel is loose?

It started when i tilted the steering wheel and i heard a pop sound then it started loosen up. It got worst every day i had to stop moving the steering wheel. The first thing that happened was my blinkers went out,i would change the fuse but it would just go out again. This last time i started the truck, moved the steering wheel down went to trun on lights then every thig turned off. How can i get it to start again?

I think it is hydraulic failure. Check if anywhere hydraulic fluid is leaking or not.

Look for NAKED or LOOSE wires under dash because something is shorting out cause the blown fuses. Possibly in the "Steering Column" if you truck has TILT Steering. LOOSE PLUGINS could cause this as well GOOD LUCK!

Loose or damaged wiring in the steering colum. I'd suggest having a professional repair done, most likely the steering wheel will have to be removed and there's a chance of setting off the airbag. Dangerous and expensive.

Stuck electric tilt steering - Is there a manual over ride?

My 2002 millenia did the same thing. My mechanic friend had me take a screw drive and go under the steering wheel where there is an opening and tap up in there. Then my steering wheel came back down. I did however turn off the auto after that. The motor is going bad.

1987 Camaro w/tilt.Steering assembly loose...6-8 in. slack.

Sounds like the vehicle has had a rough time. If you can even get the parts to do a repair would be the real question. it will certainly be simpler to replace it with a recondition assembly. You should get a Haynes or Chilton's repair manual on your vehicle to directions and help in doing the repair.

I have a 1981 Corvette with tilt steering wheel. The steering wheel has started flopping like something is loose in the steering column. Whats going on? Thanks Jim

You must remove the steering cowl below the steering wheel and see what is loose, broken or worn. It more likely to be a loose bolt, in which case just tighten it and refit the cowl.
Hope that helps

Loose steering wheel

tilt? you have to break down the column and takes special tools to remove the lock plates and remove the pins in the tilt knuckle once you get that a part then takes a torx socket to tighten the 3 screws holding the unit togethter

I have a 1973 Camaro with the factory tilt steering column and it's starting to get loose. What does it take to fix this? Are there any part breakdown diagrams?

if you can, pull steering wheel, steering lock wheel(spring compressor needed, from auto parts store, free) pull signal switch (three screws) out far enogh to see tilt mechinizm, there are three black bolts to be tightened, if you wiggle the tilt column you should see them loose, a small socket will fit star shaped bolt heads

1990chevy pickup tilt steering

the looseness in the steering can be either tye rod bushing inner or outer tye rod ends. Could also be the rack and pinion. If the truck was wobbling really bad it could have shook something loose to cause the truck not to start.
