Question about 2002 Chevrolet TrailBlazer

1 Answer

Fuel leakage smell

I recently ran over top of a dead deer coming home late one night. There is a bar that runs under the fuel tank and muffler. It looks as if the deer may have bent this bar up. It appears that there is maybe a paperwidth gap between this bar and the fuel tank. Could this cause rubbing and possibly wear a hole into the fuel tank? This deer was huge and scraped the whole undercarriage. I have hair everywhere the whole width of the vehicle underneath. This occured on New Year's Eve. Today is 5th and I noticed that it is leaving a mini basketball size circle of fuel under it when parked and you can definitely smell the fuel just from going around the block. I know this model has a recall (#54626) but the vehicle does still run. According to the recall notice the vehicle is said not to run and all. Up to this point, to me it did smell like it was running lean on fuel over the last couple of weeks. Regardless of which problem occurs, i need to correct it.

(Three girls my dad made me the grease monkey lol) I am not familiar with the trailblazers and wanted another opinion. Thanks for the help!!

The car seems it runs out of gas after running for about 1 hour it first start doing this when the tank got just above 1/4 tank now when its between 1/2 and 3/4 tank

I am betting it is the fuel pump, fuel tank pressure sensor, fuel pressure sensor, fuel pump relay or a combination of these.

Check the following:
Cooling system working properly including fans.
Under hood fuel lines, touching coolant or heater hoses.
Fuel lines under vehicle close to or not shielded from exhaust pipe, converter, muffler. Fuel lines pinched or crushed.
Fuel filter changed recently.
Fuel pump pressure.

The gauge no longer working is related to the pump, I would take it back to the shop can have then correct that.

Not sure what you mean by smelling gas, is it leaking on the ground or running rich?

If it is running richy, the fuel pressure needs to be checked, if it is too high it could cause it to run rich. Otherwise now that pressure is up with a new pump, older/leaking injectors could now be the issue not holding up under the full pressure.

One other thing you would try is reset the computer (disconnect battery for afew minutes) then drive at a steady speed for about 10 minutes.

Hope the helps.

Got a 2002 chevy s-10 4.3 . Had the fuel pressure checked last friday they said it was loosing pressure sometimes. Hasn't been wanting to crank lately.Run route today got threw and went to crank it and it...

its more likely the injection spider under the plenum. very common issue on those. does it run rich and smell a lot when it ran?? theres your answer not the pump.

Wife run over a deer already dead on the road. the gas guage stopped working . i checked the fuses, ok, had a mech check the pump float etc, ok, what could check next. car is a 2000 honda crv

probably the ground wire going from the tank to the dash under the car. Had the same issue with a truck (well minus the deer) and it turned out to be a broken ground wire that ran from the tank to the dash under the car. Most likely Bambi yanked a wire out.

No Power sometime, Engine Light is Flashing

If fuel filter hasn't been done lately I would start there & if you can, have fuel pressure tested while your at it. You may have tired fuel pump but pressure test will confirm. If you recently filled up somewhere different last time you got gas, I'd also try some "Heet" or similar just incase you got a tank full with some water in it.
