Question about 1987 Suzuki Samurai

Sudden high acceleration

Have a 1987 suzuki sammie, and when reaching shifting acceleration, it seems as tho it gets stuck at over 5k rpm. we have to turn it off to stop. can also replicate the problem by moving the pump arm, sudden increase, actually tops out the rpm. carb is new about 3 years ago.

Either a vacuum hose is hooked up wrong or a vacuum leak. Also make sure it's not leaking around the carb base. You can spray carb cleaner around the base while the engine is running. If the rpms drop then you know you have a leak there. Dont spray a lot, just enough to wet the area some.

If you have to stock Hitachi carb its a miss or go when have one rebuilt or buy one rebuilt. There's no new ones out there unless you got really really really lucky. There's only so much of the carb that can be replaced (usually never the electrical compononts) and if it was ever rebuilt correctly.

Shifting high rpm

Follow cable/linkage from throttle body to transmission for kickdown and make sure it is well lubricated and moving freely at all points, especially at transmission . Patially seized or stuck will cause it to hang up like you are accelerating and trying to pass.

I have a 2002 Celica GT 5-Speed and I shift at about 4k RPMs when getting on the highway and I still feel I'm accelerating to slow. Am i doing something wrong?

Not driving a corvette? Just kidding. More details are important. How slow is your acceleration? Is it 0-60 in 8 seconds, or 20 seconds? What is redline on your car? If redline is 5K then 4000 is a good responsible shift point. If redline is 8K then shifting at 4000 is probably robbing your engine of it's torque and horsepower band. I believe the GTS model has an 8K RPM redline, the GT may be lower, but in that case, shifting at 4K is too soon for strong acceleration. Your Tachometer should have redline clearly marked. For responsible use, stay below that, maybe 10-20%. For economy stay further still, but for power you need to let the engine use it's RPMS, especially smaller and fewer cylinder engines usually don't make their power until they are half way through the RPM range and above.

My transmisson makes a weezing sound when im at low speed

You sure its the transmission? Wheezing sound is usually the catylitic converter becoming plugged. Also...at 3-5K rpm you are not idling, you are reving the engine...(in that case, trans may be slipping or flairing between shifts, unless the unit is staying in one gear and just delaying shift till you reach that rpm. actual shift point should be close to 2,000rpm) I'd check the cat first.

The rear brakes get stuck up.

If you use your Sammi offroad it could have rusty, broken retaining springs in the rear drums or possibly seized wheel cylinders.
