Question about Cars & Trucks

I've lost the "key" to the Black 6 module in my 1999 malibu

The "key" to this device resembles a half circle with metal teeth/pins protruding from the straight end. The module is located and mounted on the left side of the steering colunm at the bottom of the dashboard. This is a passlock system. How can I bypass/disable it so that my car will start?

98 Chevy Malibu won't start

If it cranks then it is turning over but I think you are saying it will not fire up. Either way Remove battery terminals and clean both posts and terminals with sandpaper until you see shiny
metal. The black coating is lead sulphate which has a high resistance to current flow both into and out of the battery. Have a load test done on the battery to check for failed cell.

1999 Cavalier ABS light

Short of taking the instrument panel out and removing the bulb, or cutting the wires to the cluster, the only way to get rid of the light is cover it up with black tape.
Like the air bag system, the light is on if the system is disabled to let you know you do not have ABS in an emergency.
The system has to be fixed to turn the light off.

AC on 1999 Oldsmobile intrigue not working correctly.

the air feels hot ( compressed) because the ac compressor is not working
you say that occasionally it kicks in and then the air is cold
that could be either a climate control module , thermostat compressor relay problem but which ever way you look at it it will cost cash
the best way is to have the problem properly diagnosed by an accredited ac specialist shop and get a quote and then decide on the fix

Ignition locked

The ignition lock cylinder tumblers get in a bind all the time on GM vehicles. It probably has little to do with inseting the wrong key. Try inserting the correct key and "jiggle" the key in the lock. You may have to jiggle it up and down and rotate (or try to rotate) the lock cylinder forward and backward. It will probably work just fine if you can wiggle it with just the right combination. If not, you may have a damaged lock cylinder and you will have to replace it. - most likely nothing you did....I change at least two or three of these things every week...VERY COMMON.

Broke a key off in my ignition and can't remove lodged piece. Have replacement but can't turn old ignition to 'acc' to unlock. Are there any other methods for removing/replacing old ignition?

Locksmiths use a tool that resembles a thin piece of a coping saw blade. That tool is slid along side the key stub, turned so that the teeth grip the stub, and pulled outward.

They also use a thing that is like a dental pick, only with a smaller hook.

I've heard of supergluing a toothpick (or the other half of the key) to the stub of the key, but you would have to be very, very careful not to get any glue on anything but the end of the broken piece of the key. You also have to be able to hold it long enough for the glue to set.

I've also read that lubricating the key stub and lock with a lock lubricant helps with extraction, but that would clash with the superglue method.

As far as removing the cylinder, it has to be in the 'ACC' position. The only alternative to this is to remove the entire switch assembly and replace it with a new/used unit. This would mean having to add another key to your keyring(s). I believe that removing the steering wheel is necessary (or very helpful) when replacing the switch on that car.

Good luck from Detroit, MI.

I purchased a 98 chevy lumina sedan about 6 yrs ago. at that time, the driver's side power window would only go down about half way, at the half way mark, it would continue to "try" to go...

The widow regulator is bad. I believe yours is set up on a gear system. there is a long band that is plastic, of course that will lose teeth. The reason it stops. These are not hard to replace. remove the door panel. You will see the regulator and the track. You will need some tools and a drill to remove rivets. The track will pull out, then slide the new one in. you may have to remove the window to do this. Shop rate is 1 hour + materials.

My fuel gauge on my 1999 chevy malibu works till half a tank then is unreliable

This is caused by a defective fuel level sending unit inside the fuel tank. To repair the problem you must remove the fuel tank from the car and replace the fuel pump module which is part of the fuel level sensor.

Looking for the turn signal relay on a 2004 Chevy Malibu. Can't locate it on the car. Aldata no help.

Hi Midge

Up under the dash, drivers side. Usually on or near the fuse box.

Look for a cylindrical module, about the diameter of a half dollar and about an inch and a half long.

This is the blinker module.

It can be either metal or plastic. It pulls right out

Best regards

P2004 intake runner stuck open

Intake runners are controlled by vacuum actuators at the rear of the intake manifold (I think it takes a 8mm socket--two bolts for each actuator). First check them both for loose of bad vacuum hoses. You can remove the actuators and see it the runners are free to rotate--perhaps one is corroded and stuck. You can take the air horn off the intake manifold, if necessary, to free the runner; but you may need to buy a new gasket to reinstall. Let us know if you have more questions.
