Go to a mechanic and have them check the valve cover gasket. If it is this then be ready to repair it right away because the spark plugs are near there. Also i would just have them look it all over for other problems as well but check the plug underneath it as well. It could not be tight enough or they striped it and then youll need to fix that but that is what it could be.

Hi cherplan 1 thanks for your reply much appreciated ! the oil you use in my opinion is like baby oil and here in uk when valvoline first came on market years ago there were complaints about oil lights flashing on after prolonged high speeds using this grade also the consumption you complain about ? as i have truthfully said in prev reply i have never had this problem on any of our hyundais and never had any prob's with the cars and their reliability however may i recommend my recipe for your engine next oil /filter change ? use 15w40 oil i personally use a german oil called WINERGY 15W40 it is exellent! and is compatable for petol and diesel engines and also turbo charged it is recommendations come from audi/mercedes i have used it for all my cars and my customer friends/relatives and have v/good feed back now to be honest for all my cars/hyundai's i have used a single dose from new an oil additive called MOTOR PLUS it is endorsed by naasa space programme and is unbelievable! i believe in the USA etc it is called X IR OIL ADDITIVE it is merketed in uk by JML i can only say it does exactly what it says and i have used it once on each of our cars when new ? but if you use it next oil change ? will guarantee you will notice smoother/ quieter running and easier starts due to less friction and also better mpg my customers are amazed so much so when they change cars they come 1st thing for oil/filter change and motor plus to be added as i say you only need to use it once and before i forget ! you will definately notice the oil stays cleaner for longer due to less friction on engine parts ? just one more recommendation once a month i put in a bottle of REDEX FUEL INJECTION/SYSTEM CLEANER and have never suffered the dreaded emmisions trouble ie em light coming on i read a lot of problems on fixya with engine emmisions and other running faults on hyundai cars etc but you are the first one to recieve my attention and sincerely hope you take the advice above regardless of what expensive oil is recommended for you engine ? i hope you come back with update if you do take my advice? and if you are impressed pass it on to your friends/family wish you a happy new year from UK

My 2002 Hyundai Accent was low on oil, my son over filled it by 1/2 quart. I set out to have the oil changed. A couple of miles up the road it died, and would not restart, the starter only clicked The tow...

You dont say how much oil your son put in? How did you know the oil was low to start with? over filling the oil by .5 qt isnt going to hurt anything. Its time for a new car.

My 2001 hyundai accent uses a lot of oil though there are no sign of leaks or smoke.

what do you consider a "lot" of oil? some use of oil is normal. 1 to 2 quarts between oil changes is normal for an older vehicle.

How often should the oil be changed on a 2007 hatchback accent. (vic5413@verizon.net)

Every 3000 miles for conventional oil
Every 5000 miles for synthetic oil
Or every three months or so if you don't drive that much

2000 hyundai accent 1.5 uses about 1 quart of oil per 200 miles, no smoke visible. Is there some kind of oil seperator that might be causing this or is it valve seals and maybe rings? thanks

Check for leaks around the engine which is a sign that the seal may be faulty and needs replacement. Check also if there is oil in the coolant, that could also be a sign that an oil seal is broken.

Engine oil change - Quantity

Its 3 1/2 Quarts, but you might as well put a full 4 quarts in if it goes through that much. make sure you change the filter aswell! dirty oil will not cause your engine to go through it any faster. Is the oil leaking or is the engine burning it?

is it low on oil? if so it could be an internal oil leak (wouldn't be able to see) or external but you didn't say anything about that... if level is good replave the oil pressure sensor
