If this is an automatic transmission then you have a failed one on your hands. It will need to be rebuilt.

Got a 1997 Explore, in the UK. After a long drive 200 kms, got back to London. Tried to park, but NO REVERSE Gear. Called breakdown services, they think its's the 'converter' i

if only the reverse is affected it will not be the converter,if you have no drive in any gears yes the converter drive splines may have stripped but when it happened on my 89 nissan skyline wagon a loud bang was heard when this occurred and i doubt you would have missed this, most likely a snapped reverse band

Hi guys, have citroen relay '08' plate 2.2 hdi. is the clutch hydrolic or cable? also struggling to get reverse gear, all others no problem at all. any ideas?

It is hydraulic. Are you engaging 2nd gear prior to reverse to slow gear motion and ease reverse effort? Is the engine idle speed with specs?

When I put my 2006 ford Five Hundred in Reverse, Netrual and Drive, the gear is getting stiff to move. Why is this happening?

Has Coke or anything that goes sticky been spit around gear shift? I have had this before & had to pull console apart & clean with spray & wipe.

Gear Selector or Cables?

Check the selector guide, at the front lower part of the engine has not come loose.

My 2000 dodge caravan won't reverse, how much would that cost, and what is wrong with it?

There are pressure ports on the side of the 4 speed under the solenoid pack. These are 1/16 pipe thread, with a gauge you could check each one.

From the engine towards the transfer gear cover they are:

Underdrive
Overdrive
Reverse
Lock Up Release
2nd & 4th
Low & Reverse

These ports are connected very close to the clutches, so a bad seal will show up as low pressure. in reverse, look for at least 145 psi in Reverse and the Low & Reverse ports at the same time.
If pressures are good here, you likely have a broken ring gear on the rear planet. This will fail and will still have forward gears as the ring is not used during forward movement.
Good luck, i hope this helps.

I am driving a Chevrolet optra 1.6(M) car. I would like to know where is the reverse switch is , cos when i try to shift my gear to the reverse there is no reverse light or sound coming out from the...

most reverse light switches are located on the side of the gearbox. there should be 2 wires going to it, and it is usually just a matter of unplugging the wires, unscrew the switch, screw in the new switch and plug the wires back in.
it is a 5 minute job but can normally only be done underneath the car
