Call the dealer this may be one of the instrument cluster that was recalled for this these types of problem. If no recall you must remove it and have it rebuilt with the new parts that are more durable. Here is one such place that rebuilds them.

What could cause my battery to not hold a charge. Other than the alternator.

Follow the large diameter wire on the alternator back to the battery to see if it is connected correctly. If you have a multi meter, you can disconnect the + battery cable and test for continuity . Put one lead on the disconnected battery cable and the other lead on the wire that is connected with a nut and washer. Set the meter on ohms or continuity and see what the meter reading is. If set to ohms it should read 0 ohms. If set to continuity the buzzer in the meter should sound. If you don't get either, then the wire from the alternator to the battery cable is bad.

999 ford taurus if it sits for 2 or 3 days the battery is dead how do you track a short

Use a volt meter or test light, disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery post. If the meter reads 12 volts or if the test light is lit start pulling one fuse at a time until the meter reads zero or the test light goes out.

Make note of what circuit the fuse protects then start working your way back from there. It cold be as simple as a dome light being left on but you need to narrow down where the problem may be located.

I hope this helps, good luck!

I have a 1997 pontiac grand prix gt. I need help bad. My car has constant power running through it and its killing my battery. I think it started when I had my buddy redo my radio so I think he messed with...

As with any battery drain, you would pull the fuses and disconnect the major circuits while watching a test light or meter that is showing the drain. When you find the circuit in question the light goes off.
Then the fun begins trying to find the source of the drain. In your case you may want to start with disconnecting the radio. You may need a shop manual to get the wiring diagrams.

My battery keeps draining

-Is it new battery (Good)?
-Each battery's life cycle is Only last within 5 Years.
-Make sure battery surface is clean and dry.
-Disconnect both battery cable and hook up meter to and test voltage drop.
-Any voltage drop consistanly even the cables are disconnected...?
A: Yes. >>Bad battery. >>Replace new one.
A: No. Then hook up its cable back to and do the following:

-Hook up meter to battery and watch its voltage drop.
-Pull One Fuse at a time. If not stop, (Put the fuse back to) go to next one.
When it stop. The devices that use that line draw power.

Car did start

very simple my friend! start the jeep. put a multi meter on the battery on dc volts. if it is below 14 volts, the alternator is not charging the battery. you can also preform a draw test by disconnecting the positive terminal from the battery. set your meter to amps.(you may also have to move the jumper in the meter) connect you meter to both the battery, and the terminal. you shouldnt see anything about 10 milliamps. make sure all lights are off, and all doors are closed. if you have a draw, start by pulling 1 fuse, and seeing if the amps drop. if it doesnt, put the fuse back and go to another fuse. also, if you have anything aftermarket (radio, remote starter, etc.) this is most likely the issue

Battery loses charge overnight

either you have a bad battery, dirty connections or you have a parasitic drain. go to your local parts store for a battery test .to test a parasitic drain you need a multimeter. disconnect your negative battery cable. put your meter in the amperage setting. hook one lead to the negative cable and the other lead to the negative battery terminal. make sure that the cable is DISCONNECTED from the battery or you will blow fuse in meter or blow meter. read your meter. if it is anything over .5 amps or 50mA then it will fail the test. to figure out where the drain is coming from start pulling fuses. pull a fuse and put it back before pulling another. if the readings drop below the .5a then the problem is in the circuit of the fuse you just pulled. from then on it depends which circuit it is to determine the problem.

I changed the intake manifold and forgot to hook the idle sensor back up. When I realized why the car was running funny,I hooked it back up. Now it acts crazy. Sometimes it runs fine and other times it...

the idle air control provides all of the air to the engine at idle, so if its to dirty from black stuff, it will not function properly. cleaning the iac is easily done with a old tooth brush and a spray throttle body cleaner. first remove it from throttle body, there are only a couple of torx screws to hold it on. do not put whole unit in any liquid it will ruin it. just clean valve on end. and do not push valve in, it will mess up the idle. before putting back on. clean around throttle plate to remove any gunk around it. just follow directions on can. but plug it back in before starting car so computer realizes that it is working. have a good day !! this should help.

How do i remover the starter from my 2002 L200 saturn?

Sits under and to the left of the battery. Disconnect the battery, disconnect the wiring from the starter, back the bolts out, pull the starter out. Install new one in reverse order. Use a cell phone camera to take a picture of the wiring so you do not mess it up when you put it back together.

The battery keeps going dead in my 03 z71, only thing out of place is i cannot shut off the headlights manually anymore,it's stuck in auto. Alternato is fine and so is the battery, drains iin about 7...

Well if lights are not staying on then you have a draw of power somewhere. Easy way to find out is volt meter. You take off negative cable and put one end of meter to battery post and other to wire dont let the wire touch post or anyother metal of vehicle. Then go through your fuse box and pull fuse's one at a time until you see voltage on meter drop. Meter should should a (-)negative voltage at start and get smaller when right fuse is pulled take notes and pull all one at a time and replace back in orginal spot. If you find one that really lowers the negative voltage draw on meter good chance you found where problem is. Id start by checking all interior lights first, including glovebox.

24 volt charging problems .2 12 volt batteries 1 battery 16volts and the other about 9-10 volts

A 12 volt battery is actually 13.2 volts fully charged. If you are reading 16 volts, you are probably getting extranious voltage from the system somewhere, especially if the vehicle is running when you check the voltage. The alternator will put out about 15-18 volts to charge the battery normally, and yours may put out 28-32 volts to charge them in series, but the batteries, when disconnected, should never read more than about 13.2 volts each. Typically, it will read about 12 1/2 volts when disconnected. COMPLETELY DISCONNECT BOTH OF THE BATTERIES. If you still read 16 volts when it is disconnected, you must have a bad meter because the battery can't produce that much voltage, no matter what. (Six 2.2 volt cells connected in series inside the case.) Put the meter on a known good battery on another car that is not running and see if you get the same reading. It sounds like the other battery is almost dead, regardless, and it sounds like your series/parallel switch may be malfunctioning. (That is the switch that puts the battery in series to run the 24 volt starter, then puts the batteries in parallel to run the remainder of the vehicle on 12 volts. This is all assuming that you have a diesel vehicle with a 24 volt starter and that is why you have two batteries.
