Question about 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe

1 Answer

Stalling will not stay idling

I have a 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe AWD... very hard to start... been like this for quite some time... recently replaced plugs & wires, 3 new fuel injectors, replaced 2 filters in tank, replaced new sensor thingy just behind the catalyic converter, and just Friday I put new rotors and disc pads on and a caliper, I gased up and got out on the highway and the thing stalled on me... I tried starting it again after it cooled a bit but still did not stay idling... it would start after some time of whining over, the RPM's would race up and then drop down and then stall... I tried starting it then putting it in gear to move and it would automatically stall out on me... Could it be the fuel pump, but if it's the fuel pump wouldnt it not start at all?? if not what about the crank sensor??? I read somewhere that there is a recall on some for this problem, how do I find out if mine is affected???
If you could get back to me ASAP would be greatly appreciated... as I am stuck in a town I dont know and need to get back home to get back to work...

We had the same problem, tried everything. Problem was the ceramic part of the catalic converter, wich broke in pieces and came into the exhaust, so it could not get rid of the exhaust gas....

2009 Hyunda Santa Fe stalls while driving

I had a similar problem with my Santa Fe. It occurred intermittently but after I turned the steering wheel to the left. After much screwing around by the dealer and trying to baffle me with BS we heard about a strange solution. I am not a mechanic but the problem somehow related to a spring in the Airbag on the steering wheel. Changed the spring and "Stone the flame'n crows" problem solved. Never had a problem since.

2004 Hyundai Santa Fe stalls everytime you put gas in it. You have to wait approximately 5 minutes, then it will start. Doesn't stall any other time. What could possibly cause this?

Did some research and found quite a few people with the same problem. All solutions were the same. Replace the Purge Control Valve, Hyundai part number 28910-22040. It is covered under warranty.

Replaced timing belt, car now ''hunting'' Engine alert lighting??

Check the timing marks. Being one or two teeth off can advance the timing causing high idle.

2002 Santa Fe 2.7 V6 (California Car) 260,000 + miles. Engine idle will increase to about 1500 RPM and drop back to normal without notice, at times difficult to start (must hold throttle about half open)...

I faulty Idle Air Control valve (IAC) can cause these specific symptoms. You could try diconnecting the IAC valve (usually near the throttle body) and regulating the idle yourself. If the fluctuations go away and you are able to hold a constant idle position with the gas pedal (if vehicle will start), the IAC is the problem.

My '01 Santa Fe awd v-6 has a new transmission, now sometimes won

Bases on the limited info provided, most likely the ignition switch. If you list the symptoms you experience when it doesn't start it would be easier to diagnose your problem for example: does it crank? does the key turn and do nothing? etc. Hope this answers your question.
