SOURCE: 2005 Nissan Pathfinder Gas guage malfunction

I just fixed this problem last weekend in my 2005 Pathfinder. It's not the fuel sending unit itself, it's the fuel level sensor that is attached to the sending unit. I'm not a mechanic, but know a little about fixing vehicles and I did it myself in about 2 hours. The dealer may tell you they need to replace the whole fuel sender, but that is false. The sensor costs $80-90 from the dealer or from Courtesy Nissan in Texas. They will ship it to you. You don't need a "special nissan tool" to remove the sending unit, unless they call a hammer and screwdriver "special". It's a simple locking ring. You could probably have any shop do it for $100 labor if you supply the part. You can find instructions if you search Nissan forums. The Frontier has the same problem (since it's the same truck with a different body) so look in Frontier forums as well. Good luck!

It defanetly sounds like a sending unit and the fuel tank needs to be removed in order to replace it and it will most likely come with a new fuel pump too. They come as a unit and there not cheap. Sorry.

How do i replace the fuel pump on a 2005 nissan pathfinder

hello, i've dropped my tank for a sending unit replacement which required the pump to be removed. Make sure you have as little gas as possible in tank, disconnect battery, and disconnect the filler hose and whatever other lines that run to tank you can see. The only one I really have some trouble with was the electrical connector on top of pump, just hard to reach. I dropped the two straps for the tank and was able to reach my hand up there and disconnect. A extra set of hands will be great when trying to lower, used a floor jack and i got her down on my own, replaced sending unit and back up in 3hrs but would of been half the time with a buddy. Once tank is dropped, clean around pump with rag or something before removing just to keep dirt etc. from enterning tank. I just used a screwdriver and mallet to tap fuel pump around to remove, you'll see. Check for more on this.

Gas gauge goes to empty and then full after fillup

very well sounds like the sending unit in the tank. Try running some octane booster and fuel injection cleaner in tank of the truck to loosen any deposits on the float.

Gasoline gauge doesn't works

Fuel level sending unit which is part of the fuel pump. This can be replaced without buying the whole fuel pump unit. Dealer item. If you are going to attemp doing this youself buy a Chiltons 2003 -2006 $20 cost. You have to drop the gas tank to get to this Fuel Pump/Fuel Presure Regulator/Fuel Level Sending Unit Assembly. If just need to know go to Auto Zone they have books open to look.

My gas gauge seems to be doing the same as the others, and not only that,it gives wrong DTE readings. Check engine light comes on. I replaced the gas cap as well.

Your fuel level sending unit is bad. Part is about $90 at dealer. Drop gas tank, remove fuel pump, and sending unit is attached to fuel pump.
