Question about 2002 Ford Taurus
My son added gas to his Taurus using a gas can. He said the nozzle of the gas can got "stuck" and he had to pull pretty hard to get it to come out. Since then, there has been a warning light on his dash which looks like a it refer to the gas cap. Did he damage something and is it expensive to fix?
A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

you will need to replace the fuel cap. The light doesnt tell you the cap is on or off. What itis doing is measuring the pressure in your tank. If it is not in a certain range then the light comes on.

the best thing to do at this point is to have the diagnostic trouble codes read that may be stored in the memory of the on board computer, it is called the OBD 2 (on board diagnostics generation two) electronic engine control system.

SOURCE: po443 code 2002 ford taurus
That code is for the Evaporative Emissions. It could be a bad Evaporative Emissions Canister Valve or just a bad vacuum line or my granddaughter's 1997 Ford Escort had that code and her gas cap was NOT on. Now when you figure out what one it is disconnect the battery for 10 minutes to reset the computer.
