I have a 1998 Sunfire and the odometer will not show. The digital deplay only show the trip milage. Whatdo I need to do to fix this?

on a car that old your only real choice is to buy a replacement used instrument cluster on craigslist or eBay or call around to local junkyards. it just does not make much sense to spend hundreds fixing a nonessential part on a 500 dollar car. it will not be worth one more cent with a working odometer.
you can most likely find a video of someone pulling a late 90s GM cluster on youtube.com to see how it is done.

A replacement instrument cluster sells for roughly $600.00 and needs to be reprogrammed for your vehicle. The cluster houses the theft deterent function in it.

Replace instrument cluster

Is your speedometer or tachometer needle acting weird or giving wrong readings? If so it's probably the drive motors going bad, very common for sunfire instrument cluster and speedometers they all need replaced which isn't too hard if you have the parts and the equipment.

If not email me at fred@drspeedometer.com or visit my site at DrSpeedometer.com and I can fix it for you for a good price.

97 grand am, v6. replaced instrument cluster.

Call dealership and find out if it's a "PMI" system. If it has to be PMI'd at the dealership, then the old instrument cluster has all the old data in it. You have to remove all of the data from the old instrument cluster and put it in the new cluster before the car will run.
