I have an 02 GMC Envoy 253,000 mi. No service lites on but low engine power. I had the cat converter checked and it is OK. I sprayed the throttle body. It runs fine. No knocks or smoke sounds good.

How can I tell which catalytic converter is bad on my 2005 Pontiac g6


If its restricted there will be a loss of engine power. If exhaust has the rotten egg smell converter is over worked due to excessive fuel, check fuel system. Restriction can be checked with a vacuum gauge. Connect gauge to full manifold vacuum, speed engine to about 1800 rpm's vacuum should rise if vacuum decreases there is a restriction in the exhaust system.

Weak power,shaking engine ,engine light blinking,even in neutral


The check engine light can come on for many different reasons. There is only ONE reason for it to flash or "blinking" because excess or un-burned fuel is going into the exhaust and WILL damage the catalitic converter. The weak power and engine shaking is because not all cylinders in the engine are working. Most common causes are tune-up related. If you have a spark plug that does not work ( creates a spark to ignite the fuel which makes the engine run) this unburned fuel will go into the exhaust where the catalitic converter is located.This unburned fuel will cause excessively high temperatures in the converter and Will damage it. The most common reasons for no spark at the plugs- worn or defective spark plugs, spark plug wires or ignition coil. Hope this helps

E450, 6.8, V10, motor home Starts but no engine power, very hot exhaust. Check engine lamp came on..Errors checked and found: Coil Drivers A thru E not functioning properly..I fogot the...


If the coil drivers were bad you would have a heck of a time starting the engine. Cylinders 1 threw 5 would be misfiring. Your catalytic converters are clogged up at least on one side.. This is what is causing the loss of power. As you said unburnt fuel will cause the converters to heat up, and melt. they will clog. To check the converters you would have to loosen or remove the exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold. It will be load, but if the engine runs good and you have your power back, then you know for sure.

Very sluggish, goes nowhere when stepping on gas and now it won't go over 10mph. had a new fuel filter put in dec 05,2010, and all new fuel lines, gas gage hasn't worked in 2 yrs and was ran out of...


the converter is what is restricting power from engine. causes of a bad converter are: decreased engine power, indicated by low rpms on the tach. hesitating or bucking during acceleration, the car will loose power going up a hill. if engine runs hotter then usual and coolant is up to par, it may indicate a bad converter. also black smoke from tail pipe is another indication of a bad converter. good- day!!

Lost power while driving, my catalytic converter got really hot, could not get more then 30 miles an hour, replaced my converter but it still has no power, what else could cause it to loose power..??


check the fuel pressure and fuel volume to the injectors. if no service engine soon light is on , you may want to replace the fuel filter just for starters.

I have a chevy silverado i replaced the fuel pump 3 weeks ago... 2 days ago i was coming home from work it started losing power gradually... then i went to pass someone... soon as i stepped one it their...


it sounds like a converter is plugging up,if it runs good when you are just feathering the throttle,then the more gas you give it the slower it goes,that would point to converter,since you didn't say the truck didn't shut off on you when you kicked it down,i wouldn't think it would be fuel,but you can check the fuel pressure at the reed valve on the fuel rail,you need to see at least 55psi of fuel pressure for the truck to run.
