SOUNDS LIKE A BAD GROUND ON THE ALTERNATOR OR A BAD CABLE GOING TO STARTER CHECK THESE OUT FIRST. RUN A WIRE FROM GROUND ON BATTERY TO ALTERNATOR CASE. IF PROBLEM STILL EXISTS, TAKE JUMPER CABLE FROM POSITIVE
ON THE BATTERY TO BIG POST ON STARTER WHERE POSITIVE CABLE HOOKS UP. IF THIS ALLOWS CAR TO START REPLACE POSITIVE CABLE. CORROSION CAN BE IN CABLE AND NOT VISIBLE TO THE ***** EYE.

2005 rodeo.clicking when trying to start..battery 100% checked all earths and starter motor alternator etc, but if you put jump leads on it starts.

Okay, so it clicks when trying to start which means it is not getting enough power from the battery, hence when you jump it starts. Most likely your alternator is not putting out enough juice to charge battery. I would check the output from alternator, ohm/volt meter if you have one, if not they are relatively cheap. Most parts store's O'Reileys is one that I frequent, will let you use a scanner to plug in while you are at the store which may show a code to the problem. Probably the regulator is bad, not positive but I believe it is internal in alternator. Hope this helps.

REMOVE ALTERNATOR HAVE A AUTO PARTS STORE CHECK OUT ALTERNATOR SEE IF ALTERNATOR FAULTY.IF ALTERNATOR OKAY BATTERY CABLES CORRODED CHECK ALTERNATOR FUSE AND CHECK ALTERNATOR ELECTRICAL WIRES FOR DAMAGE DO THIS PROCEDURE ONLY IF ALTERNATOR YOU HAD CHECK OUT WAS OKAY.

I have a 1997 Ford taurus GL. Decided not to start a few days ago so bought a new battery. Ran okay for a couple of days then wouldn't start, but did so with a jump. Now jumping it does nothing and...

It's the alternator...it is not keeping your battery charged. You can remove it and take it to a local parts store and they will test it for free.

Car wouldnt start yesterday jumped it it started tried to start it this morning and wouldnt start again.... altenator???

Once the engine is running the alternator takes over to keep it running while sending a chrge back into the battery to make sure the battery is charged back up enough to start the engine the next time. If the car continued to run for a while after you jumped it, it may not be the alternator.

If you can get it jumped again, let it run for 10 minutes or so, if it continues to run, it's not the alternator, but more likely an issue with the battery.

If the car is running okay once it's started, you may want to go to a local parts store and have them check the battery and alternator with a diagnostic system. Most of them do not charge for this test.

I hope this helps.

Check and clean the battery terms..

The car dont have enough power to run the car when lights are on,, or there is a short,,

Battery needs to be tested first.. start from there

My truck will start with a jump but will shut off. battery checked ok,alternator checked ok.plenty of gas. runs at high idle shutsoff at low idle. whats wrong?

if the battery is ok why do you need to jump anyway? most likely its not ok, the alternator do not provide enough power at idle to supply the engine the amount of power needed to keep it running, below 1200rpm you actually use the battery, in the range of 1400 to 2000rpm the alternator will produce a surplus enough to recharge the battery, but if the battery is old it does not recharge enough to start your truck

Starting problems, needs to be jumped but battery has juice? what do i need?

Either the battery is poor, or the alternator isn't putting out enough, or the starter is taking too much power. You can easily have the battery and alternator checked at any service station. I guess if they're okay, change the starter.

98 saturn sl1 won't start

If the problem occurs after the car has been driven long enough to reach normal operating temperature, the problem is the starter. If the 'no crank' occurs cold, retest the battery.

Car won't start, battery power loss could it be the alternator?

Alternator should have better than 13.5v output with all accessories on including headlamps.Check with volt meter right at battery terminals (running) If not it's not working properly. Doubtful from what you have said that starter is bad. Also check that terminal connections are clean and tight on battery.
