You can not do this at home you must have the dealer do it on a special type of scanner.

SOURCE: 2002 dodge stratus clutch removal

first the engine does not need to be removed, a engine support bar is placed over the engine bay and hooked to the engine while the transmission is dropped, the clutch is bolted to the flywheel on the engine side and not on the transmission, if you are requesting info on how to seperate the transmission from the engine then you will need to support both engine and transmission equally so that there is no hang up between the transmission input shaft and the clutch splines, also be careful not to cause any damage to the pilot bearing or it will be harder to remove later, then use a pry bar between the two, being out of the car could be a bit more tricky,

SOURCE: 95 dodge stratus transmission problem

Whoever told you that you need a new transmission was correct!! I had to have mine replaced last September. Unless you have a friend that's a mechanic it's going to cost you at least $2000.00 if not $2500.00. Hopefully you have some mechanic friends. GOOD LUCK

I also have a 2002 Jetta 1.8t and my ****** is slipping. It is also showing the fault code PO730. Do you have any details to the fix you described of pulling the side cover and replacing burnt up clutches?...

the code stands for UNDIFINED RATIO PROBLEM which means most likely the clutch facings are well worn. Remove the trans pan, drain, and inspect for shavings in the fluid. If there have a pro look at your fluid. It may have metallic shavings in it as well which means other worn parts in the trans

2005 tahoe transmission slipping in 3rd gear after runnig awhile, told it needs to be rebuilt @1235.00 plus parts does it sound like a cur.

Third gear is the weak spot in this transmission and slipping in third is a common failure. This is the most common transmission on the market and anyone that can not give you a flat price on the repair with a good warranty is taking advantage of you.We do these all day long with a 2 year unlimited mileage warranty for 1750.00 plus tax.I think the dealer will install a reman unit for less that 2500 with a 5 year 100000 mile warranty.Dont fall for a plus parts game.Either a flat price or drive to the next shop.Avoid the chain transmission shops, they have high overhead and usually dont do as good of a job as a mom and pop that has been in business for 20 plus years.By the way the indipendant shops can give you just as good of a nationwide warranty as the chain shops can.

Tranmission seems to come out of gear at various speeds.

Make sure you have the right transmission fluid chrysler has a special type of trasmission fluid I believe it ATF+4. change the fluid and filter and the add three quarts of ATF+4 and one quart of "Lucas transmission slip. This should fix the problems. Mike

Transmission slips gears and clunks around after about 20 minutes of driving. i just pasted over my warranty

you will need the transmission repaired, this is a common problem, sorry that it happened to you after your warranty. they may still fix it under warrenty as this is a major problem, with this trans.
if you are not to far over warranty they may play with numbers to get you covered.
sometimes!
other wise it is about $2300+ repair.

Mercedes after shifting to reverse to drive the 1st gear slips

mercedes did nothing wrong your transmission is probably blown up. no way they could put in the wrong parts they wouldn't fit. how many miles are on your trans now? did you ever do a transmission service on the transmission that mercedes says is lifetime fluid? dont do back to the dealer find an independant shop that specializes in mercedes, like the one i work for. the dealer doesnt care about its clients. Us independants honestly do care

Transmission just started slipping and clunking at 107,000 miles.

Well, I had the same problem and after changing the good as new looking pink fluid in a " do not change under normal driving conditions" transmission, having the ECM reprogrammed and taking the car by AAMCO transmissions I took a lead and bought an updated and new ECM and had it reprogrammed at the dealer. The shift bucking stopped and as long as you don't see out of the ordinary wear indicated by exessive flakes in the transmission pan the mechanicals of the trans are toyota reliable... it was just a badly designed ECM. I bought my new ECM for $800 online from a toyota car dealer in Virgina.
