Check the coil packs to see if you are getting power to them and if you are getting fire to the plugs.

Its seems to be some type of electrical problem b/c before it stop running, my ECM was not communicating with any OBD scanner !? Out of no where!! Took it to auto store to get tested still no communication from ecm to obd scanner ... to read any codes back,it ecm plug was working at first!! So its hard to really say coils (not giving enough power) .

SOURCE: 2002 ls monte carlo "shudders" between 2,000-2400 rpm.....

My monte carlo would hit 2nd gear and bog down and not shift properly until it got to the last gear. I had the catalytic converter replaced and that fixed that problem. (It also created another, but not near as bad)

check to see if the wire is broken for the passlock/passkey system in the ignition lock cylinder, its common for the copper wire to seperate inside the insulation, when you tilt the column it could have been pushing the wires together enough to touch inside the insulation

1997 monte carlo new battery and alternator but will only start when jumped

starter might be internally shorted or binding up causing the starter to require more amperage to turn. have a mechanic perform a starter draw test on it or take it off and have it tested. if you are going to have it tested take it to a good alternator/starter repair shop. autozone and oreillys cant simulate engine load and if its binding because of a bad bearing on the armature shaft, with out engine load it will test good

My 96 monte carlo wont start and i have changed the alternator and the starter and it still wont turn on

Check your ground cables. All the ground cables you can find. Most of the time there the black ones. Remove them one at a time and with a wire brush, clean them off. clean them really good then put it back on tightly. Mainly the one that goes from your battery to the engine block. i had the same problem.
