try reving it after you start, if it still chokes or sputters your right. if not check your battery guage. i'd try changing your filter first because its the cheapest option. you might want to consider flushing lines too. worse case you'll need a fuel pump sending unit.
Iwould say you likely have a bad connection at the battery or to the solinoid witch is on the started or at the started cable that also is at the started but also check the main ground cables this could also cause intermintant starting Try pulling on the cables to see if the problem stops but do it in a controled way so you can deturmain witch cable is the cause then remove clean and retighten
My first thought is that you may have a fuel filter issue or a fuel pump starting to go south. The part about the battery could be a dirty terminal, loose cable or the battery is giving up. Clean the cables and check fuel pressure. I would try to see what trouble codes are stored and address them as well.
It usually happens when you have dirt in the fuel tank. Fuel pumps have their own fuel filter which can easily get clogged up by dirt.
What happens is when the car is still for some hours the dirt in the fuel tank ( which is mixed with the fuel ) settles down and your car's fuel pump can **** the fuel through it's fine filter.
the problem can be solved by flashing out the fuel and changing the fuel filter.
