Where is camshaft position sensor on 2002 Pontiac grand am se ecotec 2.2

This vehicle does not have a cam sensor .The ICM provides a synthesized cam signal to the PCM based on these inputs. The PCM uses the cam signal to synchronize fuel injection.

The powertrain control module (PCM) supplies a signal on each of the ignition control (IC) timing control circuits to the ignition control module (ICM). The ICM fires the correct ignition coil at the correct time based on the signals. The ICM detects if cylinder 1 or cylinder 3 is on the compression stroke by sensing the secondary voltage and polarity of each side of the ignition coil. The ICM detects this voltage with sensing circuitry integrated into each ignition coil. The higher voltage is on the compressing cylinder. This is called compression sense ignition. The ICM provides a synthesized cam signal to the PCM based on these inputs. The PCM uses the cam signal to synchronize fuel injection.
This system consists of the following circuits:
• An ignition voltage circuit
• A ground circuit
• A camshaft position (CMP) sensor signal circuit
• An IC timing control circuit for cylinders #1 and #4
• An IC timing control B circuit for cylinders #2 and #3

DTC P0340
This ignition system does not use a conventional camshaft position (CMP) sensor that detects valve train position. The ignition controls module (ICM) detects when #1 or #3 cylinder has fired on the cylinders compression stroke using sensing circuitry integrated within each coil. The sensing circuit detects the polarity and the strength of the secondary voltage output, the higher output is always at the event cylinder. The ignition control module (ICM) sends a CMP signal to the powertrain control module (PCM) based on the voltage difference between the event and waste cylinder firing energy. This system is called compression sense ignition. By monitoring the CMP and crankshaft position (CKP) signals, the PCM can accurately time the operation of the fuel injectors. If the PCM receives an intermittent CMP signal from the ICM, the CMP Resync Counter on the scan tool will increment. When the PCM cannot use the information from the CMP signal, a DTC will set. DTC P0341 sets when the PCM detects too many CMP Resyncs within a certain amount of time.

2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee ignition control module location

The ICM is part of the main engine control computer called the "PCM" So if the ICM is defective the PCM must be replaced, this requires a dealer to program the new PCM. Please have the dealer confirm my guess before replacing any part.

2002 dodge caravan engine misfires and backfires on idle and acceleration,is it the ignition module and where is it

The ignition control module is incorporated into the Powertrain control module. The ICM is not a separate module on Chrysler cars and trucks since the early 1990's.

Where is the ignition module. Can I get to it from under the hood? Should I replace the Crank module when I replace the ignition module?

Hi.

The ICM is located under the hood, next to the coil pack and spark plug wires. Here the part: Pontiac Grand Am Ignition Control Module (ICM).

If you ar having distribution problem and misfire check also the crankshaft position sensor. It signal is used to control coils and sparks.

My 97 grand am gt will drive fine, then act crzy staling out, shaking & it will cut off. try to start it back & it will try to start & do nothing. but if you wait for 30 mins to 1 hr it will...

Start with the simple and replace the fuel filter, if that did not help the stalling issues. Inspect the ICM, a faulty ICM will start to fail when it heats up and then start to work again when it cools off. Once the ICM fails 100%, the engine will not run at all.

Thank you for using fixya and as mentioned, start with the simple and repalce the fuel filter.

My 94 Pontiac Grand AM will die while driving. It sometimes takes an hour to start again. Fuel filter has been changed. Please help.

Check the wire harness to the Ignition Module Control (ICM) and the ICM. A faulty ICM after it heats up will cause it to stop working, in turn causing the engine not to have any fire to the spark plugs. Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to help you get your car running 100% again soon.

It could be the icm, but most likely it's in the timming. Is your check engine light on? If so, go to someone has a code reader, they can pin point your problem.
