Having changed a Flat Battery in my Fiesta 1.3 which has a KA engine it will not start. The electrics are all ok and the starter motor is turning over ok, but the vehicle still refuses to fire up.
My next step is to check the HT is live? have you any other ideas.

Many Thanks to all those who came back with a reply, the problem has been resolved. It was a blown fuse on the Fuel Pump Safety device. This happened when re-connecting a New battery, it seems to have created transients on the DC rail and blown the fuse.

So i'm back on the road but no bloody radio as i have lost the keycode. So it's off to Mr Fixit.

    Best Wishes

Hi! Can you see if the cam is turning? i.e. looking inside the top of the engine through the oil filler whilst someone cranks the engine. If it isn't revolving or you can't see then,Take a plug out and insert it back into lead and rest it on engine, listen again whilst someone cranks. Does it sound different, is there a spark?
You may have had the Cambelt break so unfortunately your valves are not opening/closing correctly hence No start.
Hopefully this is not so and it is just an electrical fault.
Keep me up to date please!

Hi Mike, Great to see your sorted! Why not give Ford a ring with your vin number they'll have your code on file. I presume your radio is the original equipment?

I Ask a Mechanic to change Starter and now most light are dead.

i would say check all the fuses again, both in passenger compartment and under the hood. plus, the mechanic should be responsible for this issue. it also sounds like you battery is not fully charged. i would also suspect, the starter was changed without disconnecting the battery and something was shorted as he installed the starter. good luck

Hi there i have a 2004 mk6 ford fiesta bassically starter motor continues to spin while engine is running i changed the starter motor about a month ago because i thought that was the problem it seemed to...

i would think this is an ignition switch problem if starter spins when ign key removed, the ign switch isn't cutting power to the starter circuit ,remove the steering column cowling panels and check for loose wires etc , with a voltmeter find the cranking wire , only comes live when key turned to starting position and should give no power when key returned to normal position , i suspect it is internal to the switch , you could try spraying wd40 into the switch barrel in case there is a sticking part otherwise a new ign switch will be required good luck ,keep me posted if you wish

Engine will not start when hot

Difficult to start with hot engine
1. Starter signal circuit.
- Switch off the engine.
- Connect the scan tool, if you have one.
- Switch on the engine (Do not start). Switch on the scanner.
- Select connect/ engine and power-train/ live data/ starter signal.
Note: Different scan tools can have different selection menus.
- Start the engine, watching the starter signal. If it changes from OFF to ON during starting, it is OK. If not then check the ignition switch and wiring for starter signal malfunction.
2. ISC valve circuit.
3. Fuel pump control circuit.
4. Fuel Injectors.
5. Ignition coil (w/ Igniter)
6. Spark plugs gaps.
7. Specific gravity and health of the battery.
8. ECU ground connectors for firm and clean connection to the engine. (Bunch of brown wires with metallic connectors).
9. Starter motor. (250 rpm).
Hope that works and thank you for visiting Fixya.

BATTERY TERMINALS GET CORROSION AND LOSE THEIR CONNECTION AND UNLESS YOU HAVE A HEAVY SET OF JUMPERS YOU WONT GET ENOUGH POWER TO START ENGINE ,TRY REMOVING BATTERY TERMINALS AND SCRAPING THEM CLEAN, IF VEHICLE THEN STARTS COVER BATTERY TERMINALS WITH GREASE TO HELP PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING AGAIN

We changed the starter and the alternator and now their no power to the car....

Hi,

Check the battery terminals/cables for security first.
If ok, then check any fuselinks inline, on the + cable (red).

If ok, then check MAIN FUSE in the engine fuse box - replace of blown.

If these are all good.....then, re-check the earth connections on the starter & alternator, including any other components/cables you may have disturbed when changing those items.

Cheers,

Hey Guys my dads 97 Suburban4x4 is having truble

Ok does the engine turn (easely) when you start it up, if yes, then you got you're self a "crank but won't start" condition. That is a little more complicated but if it simply won't turn when you start then you got a "no crank" condition witch is preaty simple.
First be absolutely sure that you're battery is good, try an other battery on it, one that you know is good. If it starts, change you're battery. I've often seen batterys that charge but go completely dead a soon as you take the charger off of them.
Second, verify the wiring, simply inspect the cable that goes directly to the starter for a cut or damage, also don't forget to check out the engine to body ground, witch usualy corodes and cuts (it's located near the crankshaft balancer and goes directly to the boby) Repair if neaded. Also verify that you're starter relay clicks when you start. If it does not clic, then you got a burned out fuse (fuse #6 in underhood fuse block), a faulty circuit or a faulty relay (underhood fuse block)(can try an other similar relay to verify). You can also try to bypass the starter circuit by simply using a screwdriver to jump the current from the positive pole (big red wire) to the "s" pole (small purple wire) of the starter. Use caution cause sparks will fly and engine may start. If the engine starts, then you know for sure the trouble is in the control circuit.
Third, verify that you hear the starter solenoid clic when you start. Have one of you're buddys start the truck and listen for a loud and clear clic (It is realy loud) If it does not clic at all or is not loud, and all the wiring and relay is ok, then the starter may be the cause (usualy only the solenoid gives away, witch can be changed seperatly)
Good luck, hope this will help

1999 oldsmobile delta battery changed but won't power on

If everything else checks out Ok in the ignition system (electrical) and if the engine and transmission turn freely, that sound like you might have starter drag.Check to see if you have good connections at the starter.I know its new but check your battery for 12 volts, good connections, ect.
