Remove the drive line. Split the drive shaft apart and then do as you guessed and remove the nut. Then you can get the carrier bearing off.

SOURCE: How do you remove the carrier bearing on a 2002

The carrier bearing on a two piece driveshaft is a pressed on unit and must be replaced by a shop. Or if you have a friend with a 12 ton press (or larger).

SOURCE: my 04 f250 vibrates under

I have a 97 ram 1500 with the same thing 45-50 OD kicks in and it would start bucking unless you turned off the overdrive and for me the problem was powerloss due to the injecters, i pulled them off and 2 were 100% clogged. if you clean your injecters be sure to sprey from the bottom to blow out the dirt/rust out of the top to be sure you are not just jamming everything further into the injecters, every easy fix took me a lil over a hour 4 bolts hold the injecter rail in and each injecter has a clip that holds them in after you remove the click carefuly turn the injecter side to side while pulling on them to remove from the fuel rail, then use a pick to pull out the large amout of dirt/rust out of the top of the injecters then you will need to use something to get power to the injecter to open it up, i took 2 pieces of wire with flat ends on then pluged the wires into the injecter the hooked the other side of the wire to the battery, if you do not hear a click sound when u hook to the battery then the injecter is bad, after you hear the click use a cleanning spay and spray from the bottom of the injecter so that the spray comes out the top, after all injecters are clean put them back on the motor, just to be sure all the rubber bushing are on the injecters there are 2 on each injecter 1top 1 bottom, i used a light amount of lube on the rubber seals to put them back in.took it for a test drive and had twice the power and the bucking had stopped.

I hope this helps.

SOURCE: how hard is it to

Pretty easy! Here are the steps:

Removal & Installation

  1. Remove 2 center bearing retaining bolts and remove the center bearing and driveshaft assembly.
  2. Check the center bearing for wear or rough action by rotating the inner race while holding the outer race. If wear or roughness is evident, replace the center bearing assembly. Examine the rubber cushion for evidence of hardening, cracking, or deterioration. Replace as required.

To install:

  1. Place the bearing in the rubber support and the rubber support in the universal shaped support, if removed.
  2. Install the center bearing and drive shaft assembly. While supporting the center bearing in position, install 2 retaining bolts and tighten to 39-53 ft. lbs. (53-72 Nm).
  3. Road test the vehicle and check for proper operation.

Ford super duty vibration/shake

The carrier bearing should not move at all. It is mounted in rubber to give a little. But, it should not move freely. If this is the case then something has gone bad. The carrier bearing would cause this vibration as it spins if it is loose.

Ring and pinion adjustment

hello sir ...

RING AND PINION TOOTH CONTACT PATTERN.—The ring and pinion tooth contact pattern is used to double-check ring and pinion adjustment. To check the accuracy of your adjustments, coat the ring gear teeth with a thin coat of red lead, white grease, hydrated ferric oxide (yellow oxide or iron), or Prussian blue. Turn the ring gear one way and then the other to rub the teeth together, producing a contact pattern on the teeth. Carefully note the contact pattern that shows up on the teeth where the substance used has been wiped off. A good contact pattern is one located in the center of the gear teeth (fig. 5-21). Figure 5-21 shows several ring and pinion gear contact patterns. Study each and note the suggested correction for the faulty contact
