SOURCE: 2004 ford taurus. Its not overheating but there

Did you recently have a transmission fixed?
If so it sound like the drive plate bolts were not applied with Loctite.
Maybe a oil viscosity problem if not a transmission job.

SOURCE: How do you take off 2004 Ford Taurus rear spoiler wings?

You'll need to open the trunk and remove the trim along the top of the trunk. The trim will be secured by some screws that should be along the perimeter of the trim. Once the screws are out, gently pop the trim off (there will be retaining clips that you don't want to break) and then you can access the bolts securing the spoiler onto the trunk. If you plan to not use a spoiler, you will need to find something to plug up the holes to prevent water and dust from getting into the trunk.

2004. Why doesn't rear defroster work?

The rear defroster fuse may have opened but failure of the switch, the connection to the rear defroster grid, or the grid itself could be the cause.

2004 Maxima - The rear window defroster used to only come on once the car warmed up. Now it won't come on at all. Any sugestion on how to fix this or what could be wrong? Thanks

Hi Sabe, I'm glad to help!

First go to the rear window glass and check power and ground at the glass connectors, also make sure they are connected to the grid because if they are loose then you have found the problem. If they are tight and you have no power to the connector then check fuses. If the fuses are good you'll need to find out why your loosing power between the fuse and the rear glass connector. It could be another connector somewhere in between. Hope this helps and have an awesome day Sabe.

I have a 1990 Ford Taurus and my blinkers don't

blinkers sounds like the flasher unit is not working. It's located under dash. Also check for burnt out bulbs.
Rear defrost, or rear defogger?: Your defogger for the rear window would run off a relay, probably located in the fuse panel of your car. Often, the connections at the rear window get broke or disconnected.

My rear defrost will not work but the light works, whats the problem

Visually inspect the heating grid attached to the inside of the rear window for breaks in the horizontal lines. Any break in the filaments in the grid will cause a partial failure of the defroster, leaving a portion of the window fogged or obscured.

  • 2 Use a test light or voltmeter to detect breaks in the filaments that aren't visible to the ***** eye. Touch one lead of the light or voltmeter to a grounded metal part of the car and the other lead to a spot on the heating grid. If the light doesn't light or the voltmeter doesn't register a reading, that indicates a break in the filament.
  • 3 Place a piece of tape on each side of the break. Align one piece just above the filament, the other piece just below it, leaving a thin space through which the filament passes.
  • 4 Apply the filament repair liquid with its applicator onto each break you've identified. Be sure to thoroughly cover the broken spot. Allow the repair to fully cure per the instructions on the bottle, then carefully remove the pieces of tape so they don't rip the filament repair.
  • 5 Inspect the the vertical lines on the heating grid if you've discovered that the entire heating grid fails to work. Any break in the vertical lines will cause complete grid failure. These can be can be repaired in the same way as the horizontal lines. Check to ensure that the metal power tabs on each side of the grid are securely fastened to the vertical lines, as a break here will also prevent the entire grid from heating.
  • 6 Reattach the metal power tabs to the heating grid as needed by removing the tab from its connector and repairing it using the epoxy found in the heating tab repair kit. Be sure to allow the full curing time indicated on the kit before reinserting the tab into the connector to ensure that the circuit isn't broken.
  • 7 Check the power switch and wiring to the rear window defogger if there are no breaks in the heating grid and both of the metal power tabs are securely connected to the grid. Replace the switch and/or wiring as necessary.

Voltage at the rear hatch defroster is 9 volts, I believe it should be 12 volts. Where should I start looking for the problem.

If these measurements are taken with the engine off , then 9 volts is not an unusual reading as the defroster grid is a heavy electrical load on the battery.

If the engine is running and charging system is good then problem could be a high resistance connection somewhere in the harnesses or the connection to the defroster grid on the rear glass.
