Your ignigtion switch is shot. You'll need to get a new one. since you can jump the starter, the starter and solenoid are both okay. If the starter was bad, it wouldn't spin. If the solenoid was bad, the starter would spin but not engage.

#1 did you put the wires on the new starter the same way you took them off the old one? #2 check your fueses, some times there is a fuse for the starter

91 accord starter has power even when the key is off

The big wire on the starter is constant power, The little wire goes from the ignition switch to the starter (switch wire). I would sugest the ignition switch is cactus (not the barel just the switch) either that or someone has patched a power circut into the switch wire. Such as instaling stereo or something. But I would think the switch is the problem

The soloinoid is getting power from somewhere to enable starter to try to start vehicle. Could be a short to the starter.

98 Expedition starter

When you do try and start the vehicle does the lights in the car go out or dim? Like it is sending all juice to the starter? Might have someone knock on the starter a little with a mallet or small hammer and see if it is stuck. could be a loose wire on the starter solenoid.

1997 Bravada Wont Start.

There is a solenoid that normally connects the two wires that you manually connected. They do go bad and if they are the replaceable typ an inexpensive fix.

1991 jeep cherokee laredo won't start

you can test your signal wire to the starter by having someone turn the key to start while you put a test light on the signal wire at the stater. If there is no signal on the light then there is a problem with the sending wire from the ignition.

Want start

Starters and starter solonoids are a big big problem on high mileage explorers Try to tap on the STARTER with a hammer not too hard there are magnets inside and you will crack them hit it firm though. Do you even get a 'CLICK" when you try to start it?
Get back to me after you do this and let me know also check out this website I created while I owned Ace Automotive Dianostic facility in Lakewood Wa for 14 years. check out the FAQ and BLOG
