This means it is the solenoid. But usually on those the starter and solenoid are one unit. They can be purchased individually, but it is usually almost as expensive as replacing the whole unit.

I have a 1996 jeep grand Cherokee Laredo. It started stalling at idle and now it will not start.

sounds like a fuel supply problem-change the fuel filter and run some injector cleaner through it-it also could be a bad fuel pump-Denny

What is the recommended weight engine oil for a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo with a 4.0L 6 cylinder engine?

Manufacturer calls for 10w 30 for that engine. However you will get more life from it if you use a 10w 40 or a good synthetic with a similar designation or even higher such as 20w50.(synthetic only).
Along with any organic oil, it is a good idea to use marvel or lucas additives. Do not use cheap oil. Most are paraffin based and will cause sludge problems.

Brakes on 2002 grand jeep cherokee laredo want to go to the floor

if there are no leaks, and the brake fluid is full, then most likely the master cylinder is bad. were the brakes bled to try to solve this problem or did this problem happen after the brakes were bled. you really need to tell the complete history about the problem.

Try gently tapping the starter motor with a hammer or bar. There may be a bad contact in the sollenoid or the starter motor brushes worn to their limit. Tapping may give you a tempory fix if the problem lies in the starter motor.

Sudden shut down

Hmm, this sounds like a electrical problem involving the ignition control module (computer) or the body control module.  They may not be bad but they are not getting power.  This could be due to one of many connection or relay problems.  Unless you know how to diagnose electrical problems yourself, you will need to get it to the shop.
