Some lights stay on when the key is removed like the gear indicator light. What can cause this and can I add a battery toggle so I dont have to disconnect the battery every time I leave the car

I wouldn't do that given the complexity of electronic modules an data bus communication networks on this vehicle . Disconnecting batteries can cause modules to go to sleep an not wake back up . The ignition switch is an input to the BCM - body control module , the BCM turns on relays powering up systems on the vehicle .
The BCM executes the high power mode by grounding the controlled power relay coil control circuit of the CONTROLLED POWER relay whenever the BCM is awake. This circuit also is grounded for 15 minutes after you turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position in order to obtain the RAP function. After 15 minutes elapse, the BCM enter a sleepstate and transitions to the low power mode. The components under controlled power then receive any necessary voltage from the battery positive voltage circuit of the BCM. If the BCM is in the low power mode, and the BCM detects that the current exceeds approximately 2 amperes, the BCM wakes up and re-enters the high power mode. If the vehicle remains inactive with the ignition in the LOCK position and without any BCM wake-ups for a period of 3 days, the BCM deactivates the low power mode. The following components are under controlled power: There are probably DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes stored in the BCM . A simple code reader can not read these , an has nothing to do with the check engine light . Battery Disconnect or Replacement Problems You may have been lucky so far disconnecting the battery .

2004 Chevrolet colorado z71 3.5 4x4. Heater/fan,turn signal, brake lights intermittently flash on and off. Suspect bcm but don't know where bcm is and if it needs to be programmed when replaced

It's located on the passenger side A pillar. Or behind the right kick panel ! The first thing to do would be check all Modules for DTC'S ! Yes the BCM need's to be programmed when replaced !
The procedures below will program the body control module (BCM) correctly after BCM related service, or setup the sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) serial number in the BCM after the SDM has been replaced. Before you start, read these procedures carefully and completely.
Programming a new Body Control Module (BCM)
If the BCM has been replaced, perform the following steps in order:
  1. Ensure that the battery is fully charged.
  2. Connect a scan tool to the data link connector (DLC).
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine and all accessories OFF.
  4. Program the BCM. Refer to Service Programming System (SPS) in Programming.
  5. Setup the sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) serial number in the BCM. Select Setup SDM Serial Number in BCM with the scan tool.
  6. Perform the Programming Theft Deterrent System Components in Theft Deterrent.
  7. Program the key fobs. Refer to Transmitter Programming in Keyless Entry.
  8. Clear all diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) with the scan tool.
After the procedure is completed, the personalization settings of the BCM are set to a default setting. Inform the customer that the personalization must be set again. Refer to Vehicle Personalization in Personalization.

Code u1411 jeep liberty 2006

wow , no engine options stated, or type of driveline.... wow.
this is covered in the FSM, read that.
it states
U1411-Implausible Fuel Volume Signal Received that means to get the car fully scanned,
using a real scan tool that sees all 2006, jeep DTC errors.
including BCM codes.
the manual tells you what to do.

here is just small expert from the Factory.serv.manual

Always perform the Pre-Diagnostic Troubleshooting procedure before proceeding. (Refer to 9 - ENGINE - DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING)(Refer To List 1).
Theory of Operation
The BCM has to send the PCM a fuel volume signal over CAN C. The signal the BCM sends over CAN C is implausible.
Diagnostic Test
Ignition on, engine not running.
With a scan tool read DTCs.
Is the DTC active at this time?
  • Go To 2
With a scan tool check for DTCs in the BCM.
Are any CAN C related DTCs active at this time?
  • (Refer to 8 - ELECTRICAL/ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULES - DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING) for the appropriate diagnostic procedures.
that word CAN , means the vehicle network communications buss called CAN.
if the PCM can not TALK to the BCM. this can cause the
data to be wrong. and the
Implausible , data.
greek ,huh,
get it serviced by any ASE shop in town or if desperate JEEP.

I have a 2003 Malibu, 3.1 V6, 120K miles. Normally when I turn the ignition switch to on, all indicator warning lights and gas gauge work in the ip cluster. After a few seconds only the battery, check...

Well Gary , you should have it checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes . Not at a part's store , thier diagnostic tool only checks engine computer codes ! Your vehicle has a number of control modules , PCM/ECM - engine , BCM - body , ABS , Air bag , the instrument cluster has a microprocessor inside , an can set DTC'S as well. But the only way to read codes in most of these modules is with a professional type scan tool . The warning lights come on when you turn the key on as a bulb check an to let you know those systems are functioning . Could be your instrument cluster is defective or a communication network problem , do you know what a serial data bus or communication network is ? This is what the control modules share information on . Your 03 chevy has the IPC bus for data transfer from the BCM to the IPC . U codes are communication error codes .

Faulty electrical connections or wiring may be the cause of intermittent conditions. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems.
The IPC determines that the BCM transmitted data to the IPC is invalid for greater than 12 seconds. The IPC sends a message to the BCM via the SPI serial data in circuit indicating that invalid data was received.
The BCM determines that the IPC transmitted data to the BCM is invalid for greater than 5 seconds.
The BCM detects that the SPI serial data in circuit is less than 1.2 v for greater than 5 seconds.
The BCM detects that the SPI serial data in circuit is greater than 4.5 v for greater than 5 seconds.
The BCM detects that the SPI serial data out circuit is less than 1.2 v for greater than 5 seconds.
The BCM detects that the SPI serial data out circuit is greater than 4.5 v for greater than 5 seconds.
The BCM detects that the SPI serial data clock circuit is less than 1.2 v for greater than 5 seconds.
The BCM detects that the SPI serial data clock circuit is greater than 4.5 v for greater than 5 seconds.

Your vehicle also uses class 2 data bus .

Class 2 Serial Data Link
The class 2 serial data link allows the following modules to communicate with each other:
• The body control module (BCM)
• The electronic brake control module (EBCM)
• The integrated radio chassis (IRC)
• The powertrain control module (PCM)
• The Remote Control Door Lock Receiver (RCDLR)
• The inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM)
The class 2 serial data link allows a scan tool to communicate with the above modules for diagnostic and testing purposes.

Abs light will not reset have replaced wheel sensor wires are good as i replaced speed sensor wires are good what next ??

Cluster warning lights

Whenever this warning light or any other stays on in the dash it is indicating that the systems control module (or the system sensor in the case of lights like low oil pressure, door open indicators etc.) has detected a fault, it then disables the system (this applies to ABS,TCS, TCM, SRS, TPMS, MIL, CEL and BCM faults and others) as long as the light is on. You must now have the dealer hook up a special electronic diagnostic tool and "scan" the system for the fault code that is stored for the problem(s)

Legend of Abbreviations. ABS Anti-lock brake system. TCS Traction control system, TCM Transmission control module, SRS Supplemental restraint system, BCM Body control module. TPMS Tire Pressure Monitor System, MIL Malfunction Indicator Lamp, CEL Check Engine Light.

Plastic hammers are not considered proper diagnostic equipment. Since this is the only "diagnostics" you have performed, that is probaly the reason for your confusion.

Yhe correct way to diagnose a problem like the one you are describing is to FIRST scan your ENTIRE onboard computer network. By "entire" I mean the PCM, TCM, ABS, AIRBAG and any other module that can communicate with a professional scan tool.
Your problem COULD be caused by something as simple as a sensor that is not producing the correct input signal to the PCM or it COULD be something more unexpected like a module that is losing communication with the other modules in the network. EXAMPLE: the speed sensor signal goes to the BCM, which relays that information to both the engine control computer and the antilock brake control module. A problem with the speed sensor itself will probably light-up the check engine light. However, a communications fault with the BCM will keep the engine control module from recieving the vehicle speed data, but will usually not set a code for the speed sensor. However, the ABS module is VERY LIKELY to set a code for loss of communication with the BCM.

With all that said, If you would like to do some proper diagnostics to figure out what is wrong with your car, I will be happy to help you if you scan all of your computer modules and post any (or all) Diagnostic Test Codes (DTCs) that you get from any of the modules. I can take the DTCs and walk you through the proper diagnostic routines.
