Do you know where the oil is leaking. I had a bad oil leak coming from the valve cover. Because the plugs go into the head the way they do. there are seals around the holes that house the plugs. pull your plugs and see if the well is filled with oil. If so this could be the problem. Also check to see if your low on oil when it starts the chugging and missing.. It could be that the leak is so bad your not getting enough compression. Also just check your plugs, I don't know how many times I have fixed a car by just changing the plugs. You would be surprised at how many of these guys that swap an engine wont even put in new plugs or if they do won't gap them. Finally check your air filter, this is another thing that will greatly affect the perfomance on your saturn. My wife came to e and said ours was bogging down really bad. I went over everything and finaly found the problem was just a bad filter.

First I would hope the person that did the engine swap will stand behind their work and at least demonstrate to you it is not something they did incorrectly with the swap. Oil leaks on used motors is a risk, if they broke any seals while doing the swap then they should repair it. The suggestion to run the B12 is okay but not helpful to your problem. Now most parts houses will connect their scan tool for free to the car and tel you what if any error codes are set, then based on that your used engine could have come with a deffective part. The results of the scan tool will dictate the next step in troubleshooting and resolution. Find out what parts were not swapped from the old engine, one of them could be suspect. If its not the engine the "mechanic" should at least give you an estimate to complete the repairs.

The water pump on our 1998 Saturn SL2 1.9 litre engine broke the pulley while driving it. My wife then drove back about 10 miles and decided to stop and called me to go get her and the car. I pulled it...

most likely a bad head from driving it 10 miles with no engine cooling
being a saturn it could also be a crack in the block, i would get it to a shop for diagnostics
it is best that the engine is not started or run until repairs are made to prevent further damage

I have a 95 sl2 that is leaking oil out the front crank seal and is registering no oil pressure

I think you should call around to local scrap yards and look on your local craiglist for a DOHC saturn engine with much lower mileage. Perhaps even a used engine vendor on ebay could be local to you. In any event I think before you undertake a major engine repair on a 15 year old engine it might make sense to put another engine in there. I do not know if a 95 DOHC is the same as a 99 DOHC but no doubt there are a few years which are interchangeable.

Burns oil/no leaks/1qt a month/past 3 years

unfortunatly this is extremely common on saturn s series vehicles
i have 10 years experience with saturns and the only way to fix it for good is to replace the engine
at the saturn dealer we would attempt this fix several different ways engine rebuilds with new pistons, rings, bearings, etc.
we also put used engines in them-sometimes it would work-it always depended on how old and how many miles the used engine had o it. my advice is to either get rid off the car before the engine locks up or religiously check the oil once a week
i had a 2002 corolla that burned 4 qts of oil a week but still got 33 mpg,i kept oil in it and it ran great

You could have a vacuum hose disconnected or a hole in a vacuum hose. See my "How To" on finding a vacuum leak.

Saturn engine using oil

the oil is almost certainly being burned in the engine, this means the piston rings have lost there seal, u will need an overhaul of the engine.

1998 Saturn SL2 engine light

Possible Causes
The following are malfunctions that could cause a rich condition:
^ Fuel pressure too high. Perform fuel pressure test.
^ Leaking fuel injector(s). - Perform pressure leak down test.
^ Vacuum leak around the MAP sensor grommet.
^ Oxygen sensor contamination.
^ Restricted exhaust or air intake.
^ Fuel Vapor Canister saturated with fuel.

IMPORTANT:
If the front oxygen reading voltage is above 600 mV and the rear HO2S is above 600 mV all the time, the O2 sensors are probably not
at fault.

1998 Saturn SL2 smell of wax paperburning after relatively short drive. Oil light came on on last Thursday so stopped and had oil added. When I arrived home Thursday evening I noticed smell.

Sounds like you spilled a little oil on the engine when you added oil. Don't worry it will burn off by itself as long as you don't have an oil leak somwhere. If the smell doesn't go away after running the engine for 50 miles or so have a shop check the engine for oil leaks.

HUGE OIL consumption! My check engine light came! Loud rattling!

Sounds like an oil seal or manifold gasket. If you don't see oil in your driveway, the oil is burning off in the engine and this would cause the misfire if it's getting to the sparkplugs. Take a flashlight and look under the hood for any small pools of oil near the sparkplugs. I'd go to a different dealership for service and I'm willing to bet they'll confirm an oil seal or gasket problem. Best of luck with your problem.

Missing oil

very common problem you are burning oil. the piston rings, that nissan used are the problem. We see quite a few of the 3.5 liter engines loosing oil due to piston ring problem. nissan sais that 1qt. per 3500 miles is exceptable, but who want a vehicle that burns oil?? not me. good luck with that.
