Question about 2004 Jeep Wrangler

04 jeep wrangler slow start then dies out

When I start up my jeep it takes a few tries like it gets gas but is running out. It has gas. I have to feather the pedal for about a minute then it will stay on. I can drive around but if I turn it off and start it cold it does it all over again.

fuel filter is past of pump assembly and in gas tank. COSTLY. Was hoping I might get lucky and find a cheaper solution.

  • redbullgang Jan 05, 2009

Did that once. Do you think a second treatment will help or am I doomed for a costly repair?

2. check for a check engine code

Jeep starts sluggish and then wants to die

It is most likely from that actually. You may need to adjust the air / fuel mixture after modding the intake. Sounds like its getting too much air.

1994 Jeep Wrangler starts fine runs for a few minutes then dies.

I'm not sure if your Jeep has this or not, but you could check with your local Chrysler dealership. Some vehicles have a sock filter in the gas tank to filter any debris before it is delivered to the engine. What sometimes will happen is, you vehicle will start and run until debris clogs the sock filter and it will die. After the vacuum on the fuel line is gone the debris will fall free from the sock filter back to the bottom of the gas tank. Then when you restart the vehicle it picks up the debris again and clogs you filter again. This happen to me once and I have to remove the tank and clean the debris out and install a new sock filter. Good luck.

1 Solution for 89 WRANGLER GETS HOT DIES/COOL THEN STARTS

One possible explanation for this is that the crankshaft position sensor is going bad.

1994 Jeep Wrangler hard to keep running

The fuel pump is located in the gas tank and the filter is right in front of the tank on the inside of the frame. I have never worked on that particular throttle body, but if it has a throttle position sensor, that could be what your problem is.
