Question about Nissan Cars & Trucks
My 1984 nissan 300zx starts right up but after about 30 seconds dies out. It does this everytime i start the car. if i start it up and put it in drive, it will drive just fine but after 30 seconds the car will shut off, it doesnt matter what rpms im driving at or what gear, after about 30 seconds car will automatically shut itself off. ran diagnostics on ecu, and replaced parts that ecu said were the problem and still no result. did all the adjustments i could think of and still no results.ended up replacing ecu and car started running like new. now after 3000 miles of no problems, its starting to do the same thing. any advice?
Sounds like something is loading up extra power to the ECU, or corrupting the operating instructions loaded into the ECU.
The die out sounds like when the car gets out of "cold start loop" and hands the job over to another another part of the computer system.
I think I might go to Autozone.com and get a free wiring and fusebox diagram. This is free after you register your car on their site.
Look for Ignition Relays or the ECU relay and replace the relay. Could be generating a short and erase operating instructions.
You could also try to find out if the ECU is programmable or is READ only. The info may only need to be reentered into the ECU if it was corrupted.
Check the connections to the ECU, as installing the new ECU was not as important as renewing the connection on the dirty plugin socket.
I hope my solution is helpful, please rate the info.

First of all you should check your transimision fluid in your gearbox, if the car is automatic, and refill until the proper sign.
Utherwise you should check the clutch if it works properly, maybe you have to adjust the clutches gap.

run a scan tool on it and make sure there are no codes, if there is codes address those problems first, if no codes.. next time it won't start check for fuel preasure. it is probably a fuel pump getting ready to go out or they may be a large amount of something other than gas clogging the pick-up sock at bottom of fuel pump.

The ecu is probably under the passenger seat. The battery also has a fusible link which may be blown. Also follow the battery wiring to the regulator box. This may also be faulty

I've had the same thing happen with my '03 Sable. at around the same milage. THe one thing is that it only happened when it was cold and damp like early sping in MIchigan. I changed the plugs and wires and seems to be ok now. I'm at 70K and the transmission has gone out! Getting harder to beat the FORD drum when they keep pumping POS vehicles out like this!
