Can a 4 prong fuel pump from an 89 Bronco be converted to work on a 3 prong fuel pump on an 88 Bronco???? I need to replace my gas tank and got one of an 89, come to find out they are a different size.

Well if he caused a short in the electrical system it could be the eec relay it is located on the passenger side under the hood on the fenderwell. Some are marked with what they do there can be 3-4 relays on it, the relays look like a small box with a connector at the bottom, and quite a few wires coming out. the one for the eec relay should be in the middle it was on my fathers 88 bronco 2. the fuel pump relay is the same thing, there cheap to buy and can find them at the parts store they are known for failure, just replace it..
Best thing to do is check voltage at fuel pump harness, have some one turn key on and off every 5 secon's, probe wire's at fuel pump harness, one of the wire's will have voltage for about 3 secon's, if you do fuel pump is getting voltage, some time while cranking engine and hitting gas tank with hammer at the same time, fuel pump will start working again, if it start's, you will still need to replace fuel pump or it will happen again, fuel pump is in fuel tank.
1. Support the gas tank with a jack or something
2. unbolt the gas tank straps
3. unscrew the rubber filler neck going to gas tank
4. Lower gas tank slowly and disconnect gas lines
5. Turn the retainer ring that holds the fuel pump in the tank and left out.
6. Drain gas into gas cans to make the gas tank easier to left
7. Replace fuel pump and reinstall gas tank.
First thing to check out will be the fuel pump relay under the hood. It is the one who drives the pump, so if it is defective the pump will not work either to prime the engine, or to make it run. Secondly, you need to check if the fuel filters are OK cause sometimes they clog up and prevent enough fuel from reaching the engine. Thirdly, check the injector(s) for cloging, and clean or replace them as needed. If none of this helps, then the problem probably has nothing to do with fuel delivery, and the next step to check will be the whole ignition system, which is also one of the most comon bronco problems.
A 1996 Bronco fuel pump is in the tank. The tank will have to be dropped. After that, it's quick & easy. The filter is on the rail, not so easy even with the line removal tools. Wear safety glasses in case of any pressure.
